Hello guys.

I have been playing for a few months now and I climbed all the way to tier 3.

However, I noticed that lately, games have become very boring. They are alwyas a stomp on either side.

Does anyone knows what the heck is up with this matchmaking algorithim?!

Cheers,

1) How tiers work. You play enough and you raise regardless of skill.
2) Alt accounts. There are many skilled players with alt accounts in all tiers.
3) Tier 3 is where people who train, group, use Voip tend to be without much effort.
4) Team game. When people stop trying to 1 vs 1 and focus fire with superior numbers having a disconnect, bad mech build, less skilled pilot hurts that much more.

Find a group. Work as a team. See things from different perspectives. Come check out the Outreach Alliance discord every solo or unit is welcome and often play together there.

Head over to the Outreach Alliance. (1. Download discord app. 2. Hit the plus sign in the top left. 3. Join instead of create server. 4 Paste this link https://discord.gg/qjearDp 5. Click join. 6. Ask people questions or join the OrAx training group.)

Games at any level can easily be stomps simply due to the nature of the game. Once one team has a numeric advantage, the snowball effect usually takes over. If your team is down 3, it's much less likely to turn that around and you'll see a ton of busted up mechs on the enemy team, but few kills. That's really the nature of the game sometimes.

Teams that work together and communicate are less likely to end up in bad situations that end up getting them killed. Usually stomps happen when a couple players on your team decide to do their own thing away from the rest, or they chase a squirrel. Flanking can be very effective, or a total disaster.

Worth noting that in Tier 3, assuming MM is on, you can be matched with 5-4-3, 4-3-2, or 3-2-1, so you're likely to see significant swings in player skill.

And if you're in a 3-2-1 match and your Tier 1 player are DC'd or having an off match or trying a new build or troll build, or straight up just aren't as good as the other side's 1s, you might see things spiral pretty quickly.

Best advice is to use comms and call targets and remind people to stick together. Trying to "command" a pug drop is futile, but if you speak up, most of the time others will respond and recriprocate, and you can hash out a very basic strategy together (e.g., grouping in a specific area, or making sure assaults are escorted to the frontline).

I'm pretty sure I've seen tier 5 players and even new players who play their first or second match in the game while I'm tier 1. So there's no difference what tier you are at all.

Just treat matchmaker as RNGmaker, every single match is pure luck, with team, with builds, with DCs and AFKs, etc, etc. Learn to enjoy it or move to GP/FP. One thing that absolutely stands out to me in QP and the thing I'll never be able to enjoy other modes for is variety in all possible aspects. Unit play modes usually require you run meta and you'll see too much of the same mechs and builds over and over. Can't stand it, to each their own I guess...

That was confirmed some months ago, however it has been fixed since then supposedly so that only as low as Tier 4 would be seen in tier 1. Though under ideal circumstances it'd only go as low as tier 3 when it comes to being practical that just isn't.
