Because I sure as hell don't. It doesn't seem consistent. Wins and losses in matches with the same ELO spread don't seem to ever come up to the same gain/loss. Are the ELO changes just RNG with the gain/loss based on win/loss?

I'm going to start notes for ssr/elo change

1. 1981 v 1845 = 10
2. 1991 v 1660 = 4
3. 1995 v 2050 = -13
4. 1982 v 2063 = 20
5. 1892 v 1966 = -13
6. 2007 v 1500 = 2
7. 2009 v 1999 = 16
8. 1868 v 1868 = 16
9. 2025 v 2060 = -14
10. 2011 v 1713 = 5
11. 1720 v 1667 = 14
12. 1608 v 1619 = -15
13. 1593 v 1724 = 22
14. 1615 v 1612 = 16
15. 1576 v 1577 = 17
16. 1592 v 1591 = -16
17. 1576 v 1607 = 17
18. 2002 v 1500 = 2
19. 1593 v 1468 = 10
20. 1734 v 1479 = 6
21. 2016 v 1500 = 2

Of all things, the League of Legends wiki has my favorite example of how Elo is calculated.

Outside the Elo formula, MWO has a few extra rules for how Elo is gained and lost.
  • The Elo you gain/lose is between 0-31 (I think the 31 is a rounding error)
  • For your first 10 games, the Elo you gain/lose is multiplied by 7
  • For a tie, both players lose the Elo they would have lost on a loss

This is the part I'm trying to figure out how they calculate. I don't think the boost for the first matches would be reflected on my end so I'm not counting that. there's got to be an equation that works consistently, though. I don't think match score is considered at all...I don't know anything else that could figure into the equation here.

What factors into the equation is what both player's Elo is and whether it's a win, loss, or tie. Nothing else matters.

I gather that. I just want to know what the equation is. I'll note win/loss numbers based on ELO until I figure it out. No one else seems to know it so maybe others will find it interesting.

Well get more data points, clearly indicate who won or lost, and we can probably figure that out.

Alright! I got a formula.

E = 32 * (R - 1/(1 + 10(B - A)/400))

E = the Elo you gain or lose after the match.
R = the result, 1 if you win and 0 if you lose.

B = your opponent's Elo.
A = your elo before the match.

The resulting value for E is then rounded to the nearest whole number, and then multiplied by 7 if you have 10 or less games.
