People want to come out in the late game and be the “heroes” that won the game, or just attain high K/D so they can post their stats and wiggle their epeens on the forum.

The big event prize requires people to get at least a 500 matchscore game. That's probably why people are being passive.

i got mine with a single dire wolf run. 800 cac2 rounds will do that. did i play chicken **** to do it? nope.

IMO WLR is where it counts in SQ, and those who focus on KDR tend to hurt their WLR.

MWO cowardice has a long, documented history. This game has the largest concentration of do-nothings in gaming today, perhaps gaming ever.

I just assumed people stopped playing aggressively out of fear that if they do well with ANYTHING, Chris will find out and nerf it.

Just type in chat “BAWK, BAWK, BAWK?” Usually they understand, but don’t respond.

It's a cascade effect of deference, and sometimes you get half a team's worth of these players.

In general, long term survivability directly translates to higher scores.

It's gotta be correlated with sustained dealing and receiving damage during that time. Games I've spent just a little too long sneaking around or out of the fight yield lower major scores, even with similar damage.

There are kill, solo kill and KMDD requirements in the current events. I imagine some of them are hoping to collect those if they hang back and wait.

A similar thing happened in FP today: I saw a player from an otherwise reputable unit disconnect when hist first mech lost a side torso.

I'm sure his fellow Clanners will be happy to comfort him.

Timely thread.

I was just in a match on River City where 3 Assaults Mechs parked themselves in the little alleyways behind the Citadel until the match was half over. They literally stood there doing nothing for a full 5 minutes not even moving. When the match was half over they finally marched out and farmed kills.

Next Match I'm on Mining Colony, and watch as two-thirds of the team avoid going anywhere near the center of the map - where the third of us who were fighting were - until the match is half over. Then we died and they marched in and farmed the Mechs we'd damaged.

It's hard enough carrying in QP without being dropped with ******** like these. I'm starting to fantasize about TKing anyone I see doing this.

That's just what QP is about, being greedy and selfish. If you want to play the real game, get a team together and play FP.

Unfortunately this is true (or fortunately?)

You peeps are chosing to play with players like that when you hit that QP button. QP is no place for teamwork

It might depend, for me personally, I might have trouble engaging if I am running a load of med pulse lasers and SRMs, while everyone is still skirmishing.

So having the wrong weapon on the wrong maps could be the problem.

Just finished a game where we got stomped again due to passivity, I watched one of the hiding pacifists get discovered by the enemy and be fired at from all angles. Despite frustrations with so many engaging in this behavior it was VERY satisfying to watch this "player" spin in vain to try and run, and die without firing once.

This is not new behaviour. There was a big thread years ago titled "Timidity is not a tactic" or something like that which bemoaned the same things.

Interesting. So I build my kitfox with 3 ams, supporting the teammates under lrm fire. Ams goes nuts. I survive till the end. Now where is that big matchscore ??

It's hard to pull off just using AMS. 1 ton of ammo, assuming you have both skill nodes, will shoot down 300-350 missiles. 7 missiles produce 1 match score. So your max of 350 will produce 50 match score. Just using AMS and nothing else you will need to carry (and actually fire) 10 tons worth of ammo, shooting down 3500 missiles. Good luck with that.

Best I ever managed (on my Nova) was 1600ish missiles destroyed.

As far as the general topic of the thread goes, I feel like I spent half my matches this weekend yelling at people to stick together and not hang back... ;) It's an age old problem.

Not sure why people get so wound up over 500 match score. The reward for that event are not all that impressive. And in Medium or Heavy Mechs quite doable just with ordinary playing.

***EDIT: Got that score three times out of 7 matches played today. Using Artillery is quite useful for something like that.***

that actually sounds more like a player who got disconnected, assuming that I'm not misunderstanding what you meant by spin

Yeah happens way too often but honestly I don't think this practice is exactly new. I mean probably something like 20-30% of my losses I can directly pinpoint the loss to lack of aggressiveness on my teams part.

This is by no means anything new. The past 2 years it has gotten progressively worse.

Yes it isn't new. I've only been playing since 2015 but it seems like it's been way, way more frequent the past few months.

He was definitely connected, cowering behind buildings for most of the game while the rest of us were fighting, and then spinning around trying to find a place to run when the enemy team finally found him.
