Tried 2 X HG Rifle + 3 X MPL.. Doesn't work for me.

Anyone perform well consistently with the 5? Can't find the right build...Maybe more range?

Thanks.

It's the only Fafnir I have, and that's what I run on it.
W/L ratio 0.89
KR 0.89
Average damage 343

Not one of my best mechs, but not bad either, especially since it's not all skilled up. Despite being slow, it's fairly fun to drive since it has 24 shots of "Delete Component".

The -5B has two more energy hardpoints making it a bit more useful when carrying Heavy Gauss.

I see quite a few -5's with 4xLB10-X shotguns, those four ballistic hardpoints can make for decent, if not overwhelming, dakka.

Similar problem with the Mad Cat MKII B, can't get the numbers others do with the Dakka build.

You can try this https://mech.nav-alp...#b72d2b12_FNR-5 build. Keep your midrange and dakka away.

You might have the same problem that I do that you're just not good at timing the gauss charge. If you don't have the -5B maybe try 2x LB-20X on the -5 and fill the rest of the space with ammo and a bigger engine. Otherwise see if 4x LB-10X works for you

Another thing to consider is the -5 is quirked for for HG cooldown to offset the low number of energy hadpoints. The -6R has an all-around cooldown quirk of 10% but no ECM.

Honestly the one and only thing that makes the fatnir worth it over others is the ECM, so while you can run those models, its going to be subpar especially in solo quenue (lets face it, QP is where ECM shines, its worthless vs skilled players, but there arent many of those in random games).

As for what ive managed to run on it well is either 2HGR+5ERML or 2GR+3ERLL (with optional 2 ERML) as a dedicated range mech. The latter isnt very good and if you want to snipe in FW there are better options, but it is a niche setup that does work provided correct map and team comp. The 2 HGR is what the mech is designed to run, and if you can figure out how to deal with the delayed fire of teh gauss its really a gamechanger (and the ONLY 100t mech i currently own purely cause of that build). On the base model with 4 dakka slots, you really need to be running 4 LBX10 or 2UAC5+2UAC10, anything else isnt worth it on that model as 10% gauss cooldown means squat when the whole point of gauss is to fire and shield after not stare targets down (possibly only build i can imagine that would benefit from the cooldown is 4 LGR, but thats beyond niche and just lel bad).

LGR is bad, but oddly I find it quite fun to play. You can almost get them to rapid fire if you get the timing right.

FNR-5 4*LB10X is a great build, I've managed to get +1500 damage with 7 tonnes of ammo and my bad aim multiple times.

Had the same issue as you have with HG and other builds, until quad UAC5 build worked like a charm for me. It may lack other assaults/builds instant-punchability, but you can dish out a very constant stream of pinpoint-damage even on long range targets before heat becomes an issue. Give it a try and lemme know how it worked out for ye.

I am not a 'competitive' player, I play for fun. [Disclaimer]

However, I currently run mine with 4x LGR and 3x ERML.
With maximized Gauss cooldown, I am firing all four roughly every two seconds [2.6 (-0.572)]. Twice the rate of the others.
Granted not doing as much damage per barrage, but over time you are doing more (4x GR @ 15 damage per, firing roughly every 4 seconds on max cooldown = 60. 4x LGR @ 8 damage per, firing twice every 4 seconds on max cooldown = 64).
And personally, I find I can also switch targets quicker if needed.
Downside with my build, only moving 43.7 kph, with a light 270 engine (but can fit in a light engine).

This is what I enjoy a lot and can be devastating. Not always of course but this is the first build and mech I managed to rack up over 1200 damage several times.

5 er med lasers and 2 hvy gauss for the 5

2 ultra 10 2 ultra 5 for the 5b

For the 5 er med laser and 2 hvy gauss, all weapons primary on one button. You fire the lasers, they trace the target, when you are happy with the placement you lift the button for the gauss, instant laser targeting. w/l 1.96 kdr 1.44 over 86 matches, its ok.

On the 5 the 2x UAC5 2x UAC10 build runs to spicy and is hard to get enough ammo in let alone cooling.

I have ran it with the 2x HG build and its either incredible or horrible, really bad at knife fighting lights.

The build I finally decided on has a bit less punch but much higher DPS.

Standard 300 2x AC5 2x AC10 Dubs Endosteel and Standard Armor.

Stays fairly cool and just destroys mechs quickly.

I wanted to try a fafnir but I don't know if a 5 E with 2x rac / 2 and 4x lrm 10 or 2x lrm 20 (to avoid phantom heat) would work better so use the missiles for support / disturbance while getting close to the target like this you can use the rac. Or whether to do a fafnir 5 with 2x UAC / 5 and 2x LB10X so as to hit hard with a direct storm.
