I don’t disagree that an improvement would be better than flat removing it, and i have spent some time thinking about how I think it could be better...but haven’t conjured up anything that couldn’t similarly be abused. A first win of the day bonus like you get in QP i think would be a better way of handling it than what we have now, but i’m not sure it would be better than no bonus at all. I get that the elo reset can be discouraging and no one wants a match with a huge elo spread, but right now with player population as low as it is i don’t think anything can be done about it. If something can be done to boost the population then i think most of the problems solaris sees will be resolved.

Starting ELO = 1500 + ((L-1500)/D)Where L = last season ELO and D = arbitrary divisor (the smaller it is the larger impact last season ranking will have on new season ranking).

It just doesn't do the job very well.
It won't do it very well when the population is so low that usually only two players are queued. If more people are playing S7, the matchmaker will be more useful - and the skill rating will be more accurate as well (low pop count means that SSR / ELO rapidly loses accuracy - an objectively mediocre player could rise to the top of the leaderboards just because the players active when he drops are all objectively worse than he is).

Agree the core issue is population. It's the cause of many issues in MWO and just needs to be worked around rather than perfect-world type stuff. Accept what it is, build it to suit.

Removing a div or two would help concentrate the population, & should make it easier to find matches. Divs 2-6 could be condensed into 4 divs rather than 5. D1 & D7 should be left as they are.
It was disappointing that there was no end of season Solaris event.

That's when it matters and if anyone in the Top 100 is playing then and gets beaten by someone in the First-10 ELO phase. They will sky rocket.
ELO pool is ELO pool. Reducing it by 57% won't mean a lot end of season.
