I'm just marveling at how easy to back stab people it was before the damage direction indicators were put on.

I do wish they still had the swarm style missiles in the closed beta. They probably took too much processing power I guess but they looked damn cool.

Spoiler

Is it me or did the game look better back then?
Missile flames and this swarm pattern, the glow on mechs seamed more detailed and man I loved the heat vision.

The old days...a different time.

Beautiful graphics, inverse kinetics, a sweet looking thermal camera, glowing Atlas Eyes, Dragon bowling, Rubberbanding, dual A/C20 or Gauss K2s, Poptarting Cataphracts, weird graphical hiccups (tunnels were always a weird mess), no ghost heat, high alpha stikes with no self inflicted damage consequences, base rushing, etc...

Some people's ideas on where these items fall will vary from person to person (seen as good or bad). Regardless, the game has evolved in many ways (in many ways for the better and in some ways possible for the worst).

Graphical side its a downgrade. MWO looks pretty bad compared to some other games today and kinda to itself.
On the playing side I consider it better... at least for my "just for fun" style anyway. Don't know about the competetive people.

ghost heat was a necessary thing. no one needed graphical issues but it just looked so much better =( abd look how bright forest colony is/was compared to now

Atlas on Atlas duels lasted a few seconds. When the Beta first started, the foresight-challenged PGI design team had THE WHOLE HEAD as cockpit. As you can imagine, capping an Atlas was easy.

The heat/glow effect after lasers hit was great! Much better than what we have today.

I miss the cb jenner so much. no dam REEEEEscale and armor as bad as a mech 15 tons lighter. Seriously the jrs-F only has 2 points more armor than the lct-1e. Full armor tree does jack sheet to help the 15 ton difference. F c-team and their balance.

pgi has no idea how much light pilots would pay to get their jenners' size and armor back. p2w sob ea-zenimax tactics right there.

Not a unique light phenomenon.

Know what is curious - have the same laptop in CB as I have now.
Visual fidelity got worse, performance as well. Huh?

Jenner? Never drove a Jenner it's a Snake Mech, I hate snakes or earthworms

And than we had forum ideas of ballancing things and Paul Inouye started his quest... rest is history

I don't get the complaint about light mechs. They are still hard enough to hit and can spread damage so easly. Sometimes I wonder how the hell they can take so much fire.

Not only when I play but also when I see other streamers play and they go "Now hes toast" fire "How is he still alive?"

By not using a jenner now you save yourself from the mech equivalent of hari kari. For those that learned how to play light mechs with the jenner long before there were lights and just "a light mech" the Jenner and its variants are such trash and rust covered hanger queens it's like having some one constantly remind you of how good something you loved is gone like a pet that died.

I learned mwo on the catapult and jenner. Been there for the ecm raven god days etc. If I can get back to the game this year when things are more stable to where I can afford it I might just try running the jenner for a month and see if i can bring back the jenner op must nerf whiner threads It would be a nice challenge since jenners only have 2 points armor more than a locust. I'll make sure to use the D as the F is now just a fatter, slower easier to hit lct 1e with only jump jets giving it any tactical advantage.

Competitive players, in general, are known for downgrading graphics to get the maximum possible FPS at the highest resolutions. Typically downgrading textures and particle effects for visual clarity. It's one of the reasons why a lot of eSpurts have commentators running their own rigs streaming the gameplay and jumping between players. The actual players are playing in a bland environment which doesn't make for great viewing whereas the commentators have the graphics set for the audience, you'll even catch some streamers using this trick.

Hardcore gamers on the other hand tend to set everything to max unless it has a noticeable effect on gameplay.

I honestly think the game is much better now than it was back then, but I do miss the earthlike gravity settings.
