I blame our usual suspects of turning forums into a pi$$ing match of peen when anyone lower jarlslist than them starts posting and gets harrassed.
Things go off topic and the loctite is applied.

Be careful about complaining about threads being locked, I've been banned from the Forums several times due to my disagreement with some of my posts being locked and tossed. Now I don't care, the freezing of freedom of speech on this forum just started the salty taste in my mouth for this company, it just grew from there...guess when the last time you saw me play was?

Also, threads get locked because of Necro. Plus, only like 3(?) thread have been locked in the last month.

People are having pissing matches atm. Really is bloody dumb. Your stats will never serve any purpose in life. Apart from buffing your own ego.

Is that because life is based on other stats? Like education level, experience and overall effectiveness? Irl surgeons don't take surgical advice from butchers even though they both cut meat. Irl, butchers don't go around offering their thoughts on how surgeries should go in the first place because they get politely told to stfu.

Strangely, on these forums, mwo versions of butchers keep trying to tell mwo versions of surgeons how to do better at meat cutting. Then get pissy when other people point out how unqualified their opinions are.

lol 'stats serve no purpose in life'

Funnily enough stats in a video game do tend to qualify you as whether or not you know what your talking about in said video game.

Its beyond apparent that someone in the top 10% is going to have way more of a clue than someone in the bottom 10%, but for some reason people act like that is irrelevant

I would agree with you when the topic of discussion is directly related to say the performance of a mech/build. However if the discussion was about QOL issues in the UI or about fun then not necessarily because every ones definitions of those things is different and there is generally no one right solution that works for everyone. The topic on discussion is important.

The problems start when one group of players tries to use the epeen as a bludgeon to silence anyone that doesn't agree with them even if "skill" is irrelevant to the argument.

As an example, skill is irrelevant to the argument about whether you liked it when they changed the colour of the text on these forums from yellow to light grey.

There's no such thing as freedom of speech on privately owned forums, websites, discussion boards.

The US Constitutional amendment about free speech relates to the federal government and the citizens of the country. It has no authority over companies like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for example.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The Canadian charter of rights and freedoms likewise relates to interactions between its citizens and the government, but it also recognises the fact that there are needs for limitations at times and that is also written into our charter. But again... it doesn't apply to privately owned discussion forums.

Ive never seen someone use "skill" as a bludgeon in that way here. Like, since ever.

Most of the time, skill differential gets brought up because some players bank on personal experience/performance as justification for why certain things should be buffed or nerfed.

In this age of bypassing the spirit of those laws by turning to private industry which is not beholden to them to affect a desired impact on people through an extra-legal means, perhaps that should be reconsidered.

I have, which is why threads get locked and people get banned. Fortunately those that I remember who were like that are no longer with us.

Especially since those "private" industries have become the public square.

It is a double-edged sword, though. If you start compelling even private industry to follow the concept of freedom of speech, you are also inviting government censorship thereof and on yourself. Comes with the rules.

Yeah it'd need well defined lines, etc, and perhaps should only apply to sufficiently large social media like FB, Twitter, etc. I do agree it's a tough call though.

Not specifically and I agree in principal, but when people are clutching at straws to win an argument they will resort to almost any measure to win. In many ways it's the same as me saying that my opinion is greater than yours just because I am a Founder or that I might have spent more money than you on the game. Neither are valid arguments for me to say that x is better than y, but I have seen both used in various arguments over the years.

You could simply read locked threads before they're deleted.

With the right access, you can read them after the fact, too. Deleted ones show up as red. But that's reserved for moderators and staff. And by a fluke, me, for about two years til I said something about it and it got fixed.

Before this topic is locked.

It's against the Forum Rules to discuss moderation and it's a pity because it certainly needs being discussed and certainly if I could discuss it I would agree with OP about recent moderation.
