1) Did you call out to hold a position? Sometimes reminding your teammates to hold position can help. The more pilots noticing more mechs holding, there's a cascading effect.
2) Some mechs are designed for FP where holding a position for defence is required. I guess super-slow ones apply. Doesn't mean slow mechs can't do well in QP, you just have to be keenly aware of the dots moving on your radar.
3) If you're caught in a nascar situation, there's usually a central feature in the map (eg Grim, Hibernal, Canyon, etc). Cut across it to get ahead of the nascar and into the back of the enemy nascar.
4) If you're slow and get a nascar-prone map, consider getting into a safe® overwatch position instead, eg the dropship in Hibernal, overlooking the ramp in Canyon, wall in HPG, etc) and shoot at enemies as they nascar past you. They'll be so focused on nascaring that they can't defocus on a lone mech on the outskirts.
5) Be the tip of the spear, act like one, and maybe others will follow. Nascar happens sometimes because pilots don't want to be shot, so drop back to 2nd line, but then the new front line also doesn't want to be in front, and drop back to 2nd line, and again and again thus the constant moving. Due to the design of alot of maps which promote movement towards the right, nascar results. But if you act like the tip of the spear and others follow, you lead by example and discourage the fall-back movements since you're offering yourself up.

If you nascar you deserve to die.
It's not like ANY pilot with more then half-dozen drops KNOWS exactly what is going to happen 95% of every Nascar Queue drop, nascar. Yet they still nascar all the time without fail. They blame the MM, like that has anything to do with nascar. They blame OP lights, like that has anything to do with nascar. They blame everything and anything BUT nascar for the epic fails they have each and every drop. Yet, they fail to to stop nascar. If they had more then two functional brain cells they would counter, but they can't, they won't, they are lemmings doomed to do the same thing over and over.

For example, I spent most of a match today trying to protect an Annihilator from a Piranha, while it slowly trundled to the front line. The Anni (and me) eventually reached the fight, but by then it was almost over already anyway. I would go crazy in a Mech like that, needing other players to escort me to the battle and then being so late to the show that anything I do is almost irrelevant.

we can blame PGI for a lot of things. god knows I do. but the 24/7-nascar is entirely in the player's corner. round and round it goes, without reason, all the time. you can tell em, you can yell at them, you can take the best position - they all rotate, still.
best solution(s):
-don't take a slow assault when going NascarQueue.
-don't take an assault when going NascarQueue.
-don't enter NascarQueue in the first place.

Huh. So anything slow performs poorly. What could you possibly do to make sure your mech moves faster? It's an unsolvable mystery.

Because they are the most powerful and influencial class in the hands of a good player.
Average players do not seem to understand how hard it is to use an assault effectively, and what kind of responsibility to the team they have when doing so.
Instead they often fall victim to an superficial 'bigger is better'-mentality (and, in some cases, even a sense of entitlement), as if they did not have to earn it.
Funny enough, about half the Nascar races I see were started by assaults turning away and/or to the right. Do those assault players really believe I am going to hold a position with my 50t Mech that was just abandoned by a lance of assaults?

Then I guess most of the people I see playing Assaults are beyond sub par. In most games half of Charlie lance dies with under 150 damage. I myself was actually more referring to the fact that I do not actually enjoy playing them... And when I see so many of them doing this badly, that makes me wonder whether they enjoy playing Assault... And if yes, why? It cannot be that entertaining to die with 150 damage to your name...

Don't get me wrong. I do not promote nascar but I am not quite sure what makes a fun gameplay

Either leave a quarter of your team behind so you can hurry to the battle and have to win with less help because your assaults got left behind and picked off.
Or walk with them as a team and make sure they make it to the fight so there are bigger threats than you. They are meat sheilds and its good to have extra armor on your team.

That's not what happens most of the time. Most of the time, the Assaults fail to take good routes to get into good positions and, if you stay with them, you will be fighting disadvantaged simply due to terrain.
If I'm playing Light, it's more consistently effective for me to go and harass the enemy to tie them up and split their focus long enough for the rest of the team to get their heads out of their arses.

But otherwise being slow is really sorta bad in QP. Unless you can really position well I’d advice nothing slower than 58 kph in QP.

I have switched to playing assaults that run 58 or better, and even then I still get killed. My favorite brawler the SRM Cyclops 10 Q runs 67.
If you want to keep up with the nascar, my suggestion is as soon as you drop you need say where you're going and try to predict the team's movements, be moving the moment your mech is powered up and don't stop moving ti'll you see the tail of the enemy nascar.
I've had quite a few good matches where I went out of my way to make sure the allies knew I was slow and heading to the right of the middle and making it clear I didn't want to be left behind and try to predict the movements.
Some maps are just better than others for assaults, my best drops are on maps that aren't super easy to nascar on like Tourmaline and Rube.
Learn the maps, remember where people go. Even after 10,000 games so far I've been surprised by teams enough to know that you have to be part lucky to predict their movement.

In fact the leader board data shows that most players across all skill levels do the most damage and impact their matches the most when playing assaults.
I had a lot of the same feelings about Nascar sometimes, but when I look at my stats not only are my assaults the best average performers, but also the best among them are the slow ballistic gunboats, annihilators and Sleipnir etc.
I think there is a strong confirmation bias effect here where failing Nascars is so extremely annoying that those matches dominate the impression of the game and also that low performance in assaults is more noticeable than low performance in other classes. The truth is that assaults are the strongest class in quick play though, the data doesn't lie.
