not really paying attention to the news lately but from what I have read so far is that MWO will be on maintenance mode but that does not mean servers will be going down anytime soon right?

I hope they will make it float..or give players the option to host the servers

give players the ability to hosts and mod it

I seem to recall Russ mentioning he'd like to get three more years, though I suppose it depends on the expenses versus revenue.

People seem to be mistaking the end of monthly mech packs as some sort of end of the game; we have over a hundred different mechs so the end of monthly mechs was a long time coming and arguably they should've started lengthening the time between mech packs starting last year.

I'm sure they have some ideas for revenue generation so it's about waiting for them to present their ideas, and if you like it show your support by spending your money.

@OP question:
Follow the "new players" grapth on this site:
https://leaderboard.isengrim.org/stats
If it reaches 0 which would be in about 6-8 seasons using the current trend player numbers whll drop dramatically.
Also if player number drop beyond a certain point that it takes too long for the average joe to get a game player number will drop even quicker.
My prediction is that MWO will last another year and then you wont have enough players to find games with reasonable speed (<10min) which will be the end of MWO.

I hope devs will trim the pain by introducing bots when things will go bad.
We are used to AFK/potato players anyway.

Nope wont happen. MWO is in maintenance mode i.e. no further development.
Since there are no bots yet, they would by definition be new development.
And looking at how "intelligent" an only moving Atlas behaved in Escort this will be a non-trivial effort.

You could ask some waroftherose/vikings players how maintenance mode and afterwards a disabled backend turned out for them,

Not for long in my opinion. They will probably fix Faction Play back to the state it was in in the coming months (and there is no way they will introduce anything new to any of the game modes) , release some mech packs, 2-3 maybe, which will be screwed up as usual in one way or another. After these, that braindead ****** will say they switch to subscription model and thats whats going hit the final nail in the coffin. If this game will be running for another 2-3 years and even that in a life support mode will be quite the miracle. I went to other games and spent my time and money on those ones because there the devs actually care. Oh yeah and those games are 6-7 years old too ;)

but there is no chance that the community will be able to continue hosting the server?

I'm guessing about another year or so before we fall below sustainable player numbers. Most of the people I know on my team including myself have largely stopped playing outside practices and comp matches, there's just no motivation to play anymore.

there are whole teams and groups of potential players who are playing other games only because they (believe it or not) have never heard of MWO!
there is no shortage of similar but inferior games and if only their communities found MWO we would have a lot of fresh meat.
i anticipate that MW5 will put a big dent in our population initially BUT i hold hope MW5 will attract attention and that after shooting a few bots people will want an endgame/PvP ...and hopefully that will lead them here (as Battletech did) and keep MWO afloat until MW5 is modded into PvP.

*it's all good in theory but when you lose 1-10% of population per patch you have to wonder

I really dont belive MW5 will be a dent to the Population - if anyhow it would be temporarily - but there is a chance MW5 will garner attraction of new and retired Players for MWO if done rigth (sort of crosspromotion).

There should be a surge of Players into MWO imho if done right.

I doubt there will be a surge, since single player mech mechanics for these players won't translate into success in MWO, and any player that plays MW5 first without ever playing MWO would get rolled so hard they wouldn't know what hit them.

You can already hear the cries of disappointment and let down of those who come from mw5 knowing nothing about mwo to find mwo to be lacking and left wanting in the features and fun departments. I'd almost feel pity of them except I remember the fact pgi had 6-7 years to make some thing good of mwo with community support including feed back and community members ready and willing to volunteer their skills once from modeling to map making and every thing else you could think of.

Like the titanic it was poor management which caused the ship to go down.

If mechwarrior 5 goes well they will most likely continue to expand it and add multiplayer to the level of MWO. They know they have a base market but the game does need a graphical and engine refresh. Adding single player and multiplayer hopefully will expand that base.

Ive started playing more again and if they do a good sale on colours n cosmetic stuff i might even spend some money.

As for bots, bots would probably be better than me in big mechs. I suck so bad in assaults, always seem to get caught out of position or left behind even when I feel like im doing ok lol.

Back to the locusts and spiders for me!
