No one can stop you... do it. It will give the game a fun feel, "Get in the Octagon" instead of "Get in the Pee Stain"

Never quite looked at it that way. Honestly if they want to make it interesting the "Uni-Circle" idea must be eliminated. Can you imagine having "TWO" domination points at opposite ends of the map? Maybe you have to take both, or maybe each one has their own count down timer. Timer for point 1 and timer for point 2.

Oh, also I can get you the math to convert the circle distance into an octagon. I made it for a shader.
