Yeap that satellite is a long way up/

From Wikipedia
A geostationary equatorial orbit (GEO) is a circular geosynchronous orbit in the plane of the Earth's equator with a radius of approximately 42,164 km (26,199 mi) (measured from the center of the Earth).

A satellite in such an orbit is at an altitude of approximately 35,786 km (22,236 mi) above mean sea level.

Double that for ping return trip.

Doh your ISP maybe using a non geostationary mesh type sat network, its still a long way away

Some info about satellite Internet https://en.wikipedia...Internet_access

I realize this isn't what you're looking for, but I'd seriously consider playing other MW/BT titles which don't require low-latency internet... just in case you might not know what's out there:
- HBS Battletech for a single-player turn-based experience. Lots of mods. Also turn-based player-vs-player which is likely to work fine over satellite.
- MegaMek to play tabletop BT campaigns in a Java client. Fugly but deep.
- In a few weeks, actual first-person experience with MW5:M.

Alternative go for a walk. If you're in an area with satellite internet, I'd expect you have great opportunities for this. Posted Image

I made sure EVERYTHING is unplugged. Lag still varies between ~750 and ~1750 randomly. And I still get random packet loss. But I forgot to plug the computer directly into the modem, I was still using wifi.
I just found out about the low earth orbit internet that is planned to be operational in a few years.

I'm going to have to check out MW5, but frankly I'm spoiled rotten playing against humans. It's hard to imagine the AI being good enough to simulate playing PVP.
But, MW5 in a few weeks you say?!?!

With the amount of invisible walls still, and duke nukem...I really can't hold my faith in PGi to make an AI that would have an IQ above a rock.

I turned off VOIP and now have 95% less packet drops, and no more 1 minute lag spikes. Now the lag simply bounces between ~750-1750mg.

I just got highest dmg on the map, and last one to die.

In the zone tonight. Packet loss continues to be minimal with VOIP off.

Starlink when it's ready, or any kind of a landline/mobile network

There is no voodoo trickery you can apply to traditional sat
Sure using the wifi would add a bit of delay, but 2 ms is not gonna make a difference with such a high ping

Be happy you have a game to play with host state rewind, other games might kick you completely
