That is NOT what I payed money for. It is NOT what was promised to me.
It is most certainly NOT good for the game to release it un-beta tested.
It smells of disaster.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. The thing is, PGI have been tweaking things themselves and taking our input might've been better but I think that they were worried about releasing the beta and having more than a month to go before the actual release and given the size of the staff working on the game, it'd have been very hard to do the final bits to get the game ready while also weighing suggestions and implementing the changes that the community wants.
The game is moddable and a month or so down the line, we can change stuff ourselves. I'm disappointed that I don't get to play it early for a month but at the same time, I can skip the demo entirely and download the main game..... as weird and stupid as that may sound

Beta, in marketing speak, is a Demo that developers release to attract people to pre-order....and it works.
A Betatester is a person that is under contract, signs an NDA and works 8h a day to test a game at an office or home office and best thing, he gets paid. You are a user that pays to get an early glimps of whats to come. Sometimes you may even can tell the devs what you think but there isn't any guarantee they will listen. Most likely there will only be very little changes, the stuff they can actualy put in before the release.
Also the game has been most likely been beta tested internaly. At least that is the normal procedure to hire professional testers or have some in your staff allready.
That dosn't mean that they can find all the bugs or even worse that they have the time to fix them.

I would NOT count on that.

If it's the same, then why the need for a name change?
As far as lying, Russ's lengthy record here with MWO speaks for itself.
Caveat emptor!

IMHO changing "beta" to "demo" devalued us as pre-purchase patrons and effectively dismissed our opinions and critique.
All I gotta say is PGI is quite lucky to have a player-base that is as invested in the Battletech IP and Mechwarrior to bite down on the leather and ride out their constant and repeated acts of player-contempt.

Actually for this to be a truer representation of Stockholm Syndrome the player base would be beholden to PGI... The reality is us BT/MW zealots have a such deep love of the IP, we're willing to begrudgingly tolerate PGI.
