Having trouble running a game on a notebook with:
Windows 10
Core i7 8550U
16GB RAM
AMD RX 550 2GB
256GB SSD
The game starts normally, shows 40+ fps in main screen and I also tried to launch testing grounds. After some time (may be 5..10 minutes) fps drops dramatically, instead of 40+ I start seeing 10 fps. Can't understand what's wrong and what I can do

This. You can try to use a cooling pad. Also you should disable turbo boosting your cpu. This might help to keem temps in check. This will impact performance on its own, naturally.

Exactly. Unfortunatelly
Installed MSI Afterburner and watched the frequencies... Been thinking that the problem is in GPU, but it's CPU. Although the temperatures not going anywhere above 72..73°C, but CPU frequency goes down to 1.6GHz after some time...

I've got cooling pad, not sure it will really help, but will try tonight. And I don't know how I can disable turbo boost for the CPU.
Don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to set and keep CPU frequency @2.4GHz, for example. I saw that it's boosting ~@3.5GHz while not heated.
P.S. will it help if I set "Max CPU" to some lower value than 100% (like 80%) in power plan? Or how else I can reduce CPU speed?

there are some simple 3rd party programs to manage CPU and GPU settings. Some things can be done in windows without any further programs, but it's clunky.

I use Throttlestop and it's doing fine for me.

custom user.cfg to put a cap on FPS sys_MaxFPS = 40 (example)
Disable Turbo boost. Layman's "temp" overclock...Many had to set it to 97%
https://www.tautvida...el-turbo-boost/
Power Options, set to High Performance
And every few months make sure to clean out the heat vents/sinks. Depending on "notebook" dissemble to get into the interior for a thorough cleaning and possible reapply thermal paste. Make sure to google and watch several youtubes for your particular system.

If this didn't happen beforehand and you feel comfortable doing so you should consider cleaning your laptop.
