Austin's one of the better game journalists out there. He did an awesome job back at Giant Bomb, and definitely earned his spot as the head honcho at Vice/Waypoint. Good read.

That's a pretty good read and an accurate review. I'd give this game a solid 7/10. There are rough edges everywhere but the core of the game is pretty good.

Part of why I really look forward to see what modders can do with the game. The core mechanics are very good, and with the ability to mod the game to your own version of what you're looking for, it's going to be amazing. I mean, the sim-heads will mod a more sim-feeling option with fewer, but more dangerous enemies, the mechlab lovers will put out a roguetech like mod with all the customizations possible, the old mechwarrior fans could make mods recreating MW2, 3 or 4 mechanics or storylines.... all possibilities.

No certainties yet though, and while I like the game as is (a solid 7/10 as someone said above), I have a feeling mods could make it a long term love affair again.

This review accurately sums up most of MW5's strong points and blunders, as well as the hopes of most of BT/MW fans.

So much potential we hope will be fully achieved in DLCs..

This isn't the 2000s. Games are no longer sprinters. Success of the game depends on the marathon, and how it runs the long run.

More than DLCs, the mods are ones that'll make this game great.

It's the same problem they had with MWO.

The core is so good (stompy robot smash). But the glue holding the management to the the core is almost nonexistent. MWO's multiplayer aspect makes it so much worse because the fear of taking away peoples toys.
