Is there really no chat functionality or messaging capability whatsoever??? I'm confused...how are we supposed to communicate with friends we're playing with? This seems extremely stupid and shortsighted unless I'm missing something incredibly obvious...

PGI has set up several "rooms" in their discord channel to coop teams to use.

So in other words I have to alt-tab to send my teammates a message if I'm not in voice chat? ******* lmao, they managed to figure out "messaging" in like, 1995. This is pathetic.

it's a single player game with Co-op, as a single player, who are you going to talk/chat with ? misread title, never mind the single player comment

as for Co-op, and as already mentioned the Discord channel, that was set up for MW5. also if you're in a unit, maybe they have a voice coms

Voice chat over teamspeak or a discord channel. Same as EVERY OTHER GAMER ON EVERY OTHER PC and console game basically. In-game text chatting is a lame move that this game never should have wasted developer time on.

Most people don't use built-in VOIP.

Battlefield?
Teamspeak with friends.

Call of 12 year olds screaming in rage? Definitely not using their in-game voice to hear those kids...

Multiplayer games on steam? TS, Steam voice, or discord.

Playing over GOG?
Discord.

4 player co-op? Using a built-in voip? Seems pretty weird.

There's really no excuse for refusing to implement text chat in a co-op game.

Well, there is, but it's a bad one:

Russ thinks text chat is low hanging fruit that's not worth the development time.

Want in game text, mod it yourself once the editor is released to have it. You spend the time to develop a mod for it. There's also the CVAA law in the USA who's implementation date was this year. If a game has any built in chat system between players, it has to meet the accessibility requirements that can put a coding burden on developers so many are no longer including such features in their titles.

Doesn't really change the fact that text chat is a basic feature in multiplayer games. Even if it's less used now at days. It's still something that is a standard in the game industry. Having the option of modding doesn't really excuse it. In general Mods shouldn't be an excuse for MW5's short comings.

This game is missing so much essentials.
Why not also text chat.
Give it another year of development and MW5 will be ready with the steam release.
Until then enjoy the beta testing.

with pgi's propensity for shortcuts, i bet the modding will be very limited in what can be accomplished.

Having played coop, and lacking voip (just because!) it'd be really nice to have an ingame text chat.
It's weird to play an Epic Store game with Steam voip chat with my buddies.
The problem is, I have to alt-tab out of the game to write something, and then they don't read it.
So yeah. Chat please.

No, I won't get a voip headset. Just... no.

LoL
"no I don't want to chat in voip with my friends! I hate their voices?!"

And it's so much more useful to "write" midfight….

OMG.... some people still live in caves it seems...

Depends on what we get. The good news is; it's more than likely still UE.

Textchat since 1997 1996.
And yeah, I don't want to talk to them, hear them, listen to them farting, burping, coughing, shouting with the wife etc.
I've been doing really well in coop games with text chat only for years. Really don't need or want voip even though it'd only take me plugging in the usb voip headset I got from somewhere some years ago.

There's actually real people defending the lack of a Chatbox in a coop game.

interesting, thought I pop in Discord (not a fan of it, and don't like it's overlay), and I can't actually use it, need verify phone, but discord will not send code.
I used press here to resend ode, and still waiting, and now I'm rate limited

So discord is not going to work, for everyone, from my experience , meaning discord is not the answer

I can still use TS if I want to text chat, but I have dual monitors, so texting is just have the TS on the other monitor, this option is not open available for everyone , and only time I use text are for links

I can read text, with the Overwolf overlay, but for some reason Overwolf is not working with MW5 , which is not much a problem, unless I have TS covered over like with the browser, and I'll need to alt tab out, just to uncover and read the text.

I do have troubles understanding, what the issue is not wanting to use voice with 3 other friends, all you need is a mic, to talk, don't need a headset with mic.
I've used a speaker in the past as a mic, but don't think that'll work if you're only choice is USP for a audio, well I can't use the usb, I'm sure it's still plausible I just don't know how, and currently, doesn't matter if I did or didn't, Just saying

I can confirm though, Discord is not the answer for everyone
willing or unwilling to use a mic
