What Happens To The Skilltree?

Hi, say I buy a mech, start working on the skilltree, then decide the mech just doesn't work for me. If I then sell the mech, what happens to the points I put into the skilltree? Can they be moved to another mech that I still have? Or are they just gone? Thanks
