I've seen several mechs listed as such in MechDB. I was particularly intrigued by a Highlander IIC variant called Cu Chulainn that has 4 Ballistic and 4 Energy hardpoints. Do any of you have it?

This 'Mech has never been offered by PGI in MWO. My guess is that this is an unreleased variant found in game files. Or pehaps this just a fan 'Mech.

Ah, I see. I have a few Loyalty and Special variants as well among the collection of Heroes. I had never seen that particular Highlander IIC anywhere.

It's the original Keeper template.

I have this variant. It's a very shiny boi that can carry some nasty loadouts.

Ripped from the game files?

All of which have since been released as standard C-Bill variants. MechDB is slightly out of date on some of them though - and on Corsair Broadside, which was released for MC a while ago.

Variants, yes. But you can not visit the shop and buy CN9-AH(L), for example. That's why it is designated as "Non Purchasable".

In terms of gameplay, the CN9-AH(L) is the same as CN9-AH and the same goes for the other loyalty/special versions.

Sure, the set of hardpoints is the same. But it is the unique livery and bonus that make the 'Mechs special and "Non Purchasable".

This special livery can not be bought in the MWO store:

That Highlander IIC with 4 Energy and 4 Ballistic had potential. It's kind of like the Kodiak but more agile. Or maybe it's me being biased 'cause I have a few Highlander IICs and I like them to some extent while my experience with the Kodiaks has only been in Testing Grounds and really let down by the agility.

Sure, but the Kodiak has advantage of shoulder-mounted guns.

Yup, poor Kodiak most harmed assault in the game. Heard real bears can be kinda fast. But this one is still in the middle of hibernation. Im' trying to compensate this at mobility tree with my Kodiak and still burst in tears. "Ah Kodiak! What they done to you. Someone forgot to grease your servomotors!". It's just rusted.

I don't see how it's an advantage when the mech thinks like a village pillock everytime you use the movement keys.

The MASC on the spirit bear makes it a bit more agile...

I'm one of the few that didn't get support to remove the extra Cent-AH(L), named them Bill and Ted.

What about unlocking skill nodes from the Mobility section of the Skill Tree?

Wasted points just to make it slightly useful. Nah, PGI messed up that mech and many others. There's just no point. I wouldn't even put 4 Shotguns in it 'cause the turning rate, torso twist and pitch is just so bad, not to mention the acceleration and deceleration.

Because KDK-3 is the single least mobile mech in the entire game and the skill tree values for mobility are multiplicative with the base parameters?
https://docs.google....Pjsg/edit#gid=0
KDK-3:
Accel	Decel	Turn	Twist	Yaw	Pitch
  6.2	11.0	30.4 54.0 60 16

At the maximum, you can put acceleration to 7.719 (still worst of any mech in the game), deceleration to 13.695 (minimally better than an Atlas), turn rate to 39.52 (barely in line with the base for other Kodiak variants, worse than Atlas), twist speed to 70.2 (worse than Atlas and the other Kodiak variants), Yaw to 66 (only better than the Dire Wolf) and Pitch to 17.6 (only better than the Atlas).
That costs you 35 skill points - points that won't make your any mech better at killing the enemy or surviving for longer. Basically you've wasted them on polishing a ****.
