I have been dropping lately with a leader who encourages this with the reasoning that the enemy assaults are the most dangerous mechs. I tend to target lights and mediums first to remove them from the board and because they are more mobile and more dangerous in the early part of the game.

What do you say? Kill their "battleships", or their "cruisers" and "destroyers", first?

Assaults are often the easiest to kill early, simply by catching them inbound and strung out. Heavies and lights tend to be the most threatening- heavies because they're the best mix of armor, speed and guns and lights because late-game, lights are deadly finishers. (Hi, MG carrier fishboi!).

Assaults may have the most firepower, but many of them end up outpositioned and focused down as a result due to being generally slower than the pack.

Plus taking them out early reduces potential damage dealt to your team significantly. Then again, most of them are pretty rubbish even when they survive the early positioning phase.

And remember,
Armor doesn't kill enemy's.
Guns kill enemy's.

Pretty sure we've had this thread:

Pooling health kills mechs faster than, well, shooting them...

Maybe dps pooling i.e. focused fire; but armor does almost zero damage.
But if you insist on your stupid argument upload at least two videos of teams speed killing with their collision damage without the use of weapons

Make me believe. Show me how; because I have never gotten a kill without using weapons.

Armor keeps you alive. A dead mech does zero DPS.

Dead teammates do 0 DPS. If your teammate isn't a complete potato and knows how to pie-slice or key-hole to avoid exposing to the entire enemy team's focus fire, it helps him if you expose to draw attention, too, you know.

Yes armor keeps you alive, but it doesn't kill enemies.
Only weapons kill enemies.

I challenge you prove that a mech can kill without weapon consistently.

In the context of ships, it's always shoot the DD first if you can, teams that ignore DDs generally get sunk.

I challenge you to prove that letting your teammate eat 100% of the enemy's damage is always preferable to splitting it 50/50.

See? I, too, can construct strawmen of my opponent's argument.

I made no such claim.

Y'all are overthinking it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard.

I suggested to go for player first but that falls on deaf ears.

My newest suggestion...Focus on the first thing that's in front of you.
