I have noticed though that for some reason my xp bar is advancing swiftly. At t2 it took three matches or so to perceptably advance the xp bar. I'm probably 1/10th to max t1 already in two evenings.

Good timing... now that it doesn't factor into MM at all.
On the upside, it means you can a 4 flamer and SRM2+Artemis build and everyone will just assume you're tier 5...
