Hi there, I have a decent faction drop for Inner Sphere and don't have any clan good clanners except the Piranha and Vapor Eagle. I can afford one assault mech with the current sale, or one heavy and a medium. What do you think?

Are you looking for mechs that fit well into a clan dropdeck?

Ideally things that could be used in regular pug and drop with modifications of course. My IS mechs are great for both, I run a IV4 and a K9 and a WHM-6R and all of them are good for both.

Oh and if this helps I enjoy most of the play styles in the game.

That one does look good, but is not currently on sale. I am looking at the hero mechs.

ahhh, there are very few good hero mechs. iv4 you have above is one of the best. mwo has always been afraid of the "pay2win" so they basically made them average at best.

On the clan side the deathstrike has been good for its dual gauss +6erm build. good sniper

The scorch for its 2x20lbx +4xsrm6 build. Very powerful brawler.

ultraviolet for its 8xac2 build .It can be good or very very bad as its slower and you can die right away.

Jadekite for its ac2 build good but not great as armor and speed isn't the best.

Then some of the other hero's you basically are buying a pod with an extra weapon slot like ebon jag hero would like you run 4 AC if you get it.

I am assuming the the Direwolf-UV plays sort of like the ANH-2A? If so I am used to that.

UV (or better Prime with UV-Arms) runs ac2 spam and is the only mech that can run 8x AC2s

That sounds super fun, why is it better to have the prime with UV arms?

The prime CT has no hardpoints but a +12 pts. armour quirk, whereas the UV CT ha a missile hardpoint that nobody uses. Of course, the UV CT has the custom paintjob and 30% CBill Bonus.

If you're going for heroes, Deathstrike is good. If that one doesn't fir your fancy, go Pakhet + Virago. Virago is one of the few Clan mechs with laser range quirks, which makes it very useful for laser trading in FP.

Because the Prime has a +12 CT armor quirk, where the UV instead gets CT missile hardpoint.

12 more armor on the ct nothing to big of a deal. I run my uv stock.

It does play a lot like the anh but you have less twist and less armor. In a 1v1 fight anh wins every time but still fun to play.

10% more armor may not be a big deal but it's far from irrelevant either.

You're telling someone new to grind 18million cbills + mechbay for 12 armor lol Sure why not if you have the time. Like i said i run my uv "stock ct" all the time works fine. You get into a good position you put out tons of dps. If you don't you die in few seconds. Its a slow assault you dont die slowly over a match.

He's not telling anyone to get the Prime, just that it's a tad better at what it is supposed to do. And since you need to buy the UV for its arm pods anyway, it's a perspective.

If you want two mechs then Pakhet + Virago is the way to go. The Deathstrike is a good mech. I've seen some top players get great results with 2xUAC10 and 6xMPL (the DS has a UAC jam quirk).

For some reason I've had good success with the MCII-1 with 2xLB20X and 4xSPL which you can run on the DS. Just be aware that experienced players will target your arms asap to nerf your firepower and they are pretty big targets.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

Huntsman and Vulture Mad Dog .

The Vulture Mad Dog is a very flexible mech and can rock almost any build. An essential mech for any Clan collection.

The Huntsman is an Omni-Bro to the VEagle and my favourite Clan Medium, you've already got a VEagle so you might want to consider giving it a miss till you have a more disposable budget.

If you can stretch the budget, switch the Huntsman for a Night Gyr, it's a Clan assault in heavy packaging, plays like a turret. Laser heatsinks are a nice boon if you struggle with heat management or really like to red-line (heat sinks have the same dissipation on all maps, terra through polar (and the only mech in the game equipped with them)).

If you can't stretch it, grab a Cougar, Adder or kitfox; Cougars are glass cannons, Adders are solid and Foxes are a swiss army but difficult to masster.
