Artillery Smoke rounds. Drop em and have cover for 1 minute against all forms of vision. Nice way to block a strategic movement.

Vote Yes / No

I vote yes, but I want them as a mech missile launcher so we can use at will.

Interesting but 1 minute is really long, just imagine it in dynamic game. 30 seconds are enough I believe.

Three problems I see with smoke consumables:

1. PGI doesn't like work, so they'd be pretty hard on performance (Google overdraw, major issue with large particle systems).
2. *Some people* don't need to see to see (Gamma/Saturation tweaks aside, wallhacks are undetectable). Minor issue.
3. Stealth light mechs like the COM that are quirked to have more armor than a TT assault mech running around in pea soup fog being even more ridiculous than usual would be painful in the extreme. Major issue, in my opinion.

20 seconds per smoke round.

Also it would be nice if we didn't need a special launcher for it, just a way to switch rounds in our ballistics weaponry.

PGI has had 8 years to implement ammo switching. But why? Russ Bullock once called his own game "Minimally Viable Product." And it's still true.

MVP is a design concept that is meant to launch a product. after launch it is intended to be updated and become more sophisticated, especially as it pertains to software. Russ may be proud that he was able to MVP the battletech mechanics and universe into MWO - but it's time to move forward into Most Valueable Product. He can still call it MVP if he wants.

They would be more used in missiles than ballistics.

as for ammo changing its something I have always been mixed on. On one hand it would be easy to implement and allow for more dynamic builds. On the other that flexibility would give a huge advantage to missile and ballistic based mechs. Just LBX alone swaping from solid slugs to cluster would heavily shift the meta.

I like it as a module, should be able to initiate smoke screen by walking over the spot the same way you launch a UAV, but it's a smoke canister. I don't think it would be too hard on the engine considering dead mechs, artillery strikes all put out smoke.

I'm not sure how useful dropping it on top of yourself would be though.
