I am more into a light or medium, but thoughts and ideas will be usefull for alot of new players.

So, what do you guys recommend?

Inner Sphere or Clan?

Light, Medium, Heavy or Assault 'Mech?

What is your playstyle or what do you expect from the Hero 'Mech?

I mean, MWO offers a wide selection of Hero 'Mechs ranging from 20-ton "Romeo 5000" to 100-ton "Spirit Bear".

Me personally maybe a clan light or medium.

It's my first hero mech and I'm a rookie, so no idea what's out there.

Ideas about mechs and loadings would be nice

Huntsman "Pakhet" - Clan medium OmniMech

A very versatile OmniMech that can be configured for many battlefield roles: Short-range brawler (SRMs), medium-range missile support (ATMs), long-range LRM-boat, Streak boat, big gun carrier (Ultracannon or Gauss Rifle).

It has fixed Jump Jets that can not be removed. Sometimes they are useful, sometimes they are not so good.

There is one disadvantage: Relatively low speed 81 km/h. Not so bad for a medium 'Mech, but there are other faster 'Mechs.

Thank you, I'll take a look at the chassis and quirks!

Any other favorites?

The Stormcrow is a versatile Clan medium OmniMech so the Lacerator might be worth a look. The all-srm version a.k.a the 'Splatcrow' used to be quite effective when scouting was a thing in FP.

My other favorite Hero 'Mech is:

Stormcrow "Lacerator"- Clan medium OmniMech

A fast OmniMech in its weight class that can be used in situations when the higher ground speed is more important than having Jump Jets. The Stormcrow can not use Jump Jets, but with 97.2 km/h top speed it is almost 20 km/h faster than the Huntsman with its 81 km/h.

If you put the fully armored Huntsman and the Stormcrow side by side, then - with some fine tuning - the Huntsman will have 24 tons of pod space available and the Stormcrow 23 tons of pod space available. However, the Stormcrow will sport 40 points more of armor. If you reduce the Stormcrow's armor to the Huntsman level, the pod space of both Omnis is going to be equal - 24 tons.

As for hardpoints, the Stormcrow can equip more energy weapons, while the Huntsman can boat more missiles.

There is a certain difference between those 'Mechs when it comes to ballistic weapons: The Huntsman has the advantage of having ballistic hardpoints high in its side torsos (good for sniping), but it can not carry the biggest Clan ballistic weapons. The Stormcrow lacks those ballistic side torso Omnipods, but it can carry all ballistic weapons available to the Clans in its arms.

Some players dislike the Stormcrow, but I like it.

The stormcrow is also one of my favorite clan mechs of old, so a great contender as well.
very diferent gameplay between the two!

So far i have never used Jumpjets, so the packet would be a great learning experience.

It's not "packet". The 'Mech is named after "Pakhet" or "Pasht", the ancient Egyptian goddess of war. Posted Image

This goddess was depicted as a lioness.

You can see that big head of lioness painted on the 'Mech's center torso.

Thank for all the suggestions and the Pakhet correction.

So event done and I got 1355 MC, so the lacerator and that level of dreams needs to stay for a later date.

It's only enough for a Grinner or a couple of other lights, boo. Guess I'm inner sphere bound for now.

"Grinner" works well for me.

Just be sure that you pick the right 'Mech for you and your playstyle, before you buy one.

If we go by past practice, there will be a U.S. Thanksgiving and Xmas event with corresponding sales so it might be worth your time to wait a bit if you want a particular Hero.

Good hunting,

Well, T5s usually got to T5 for a reason. But even a broken clock is right twice a day. :P
