Cant Launch Mwo, New Problem 2020

Hey community,

So I finally got a labtop after watching all you mech jocks and freeborns'.

I have the HP Envy with:

-Core i7-1065G7 CPU


- OS Microsoft Windows 10

-NVidia Geforce MX330 (my overall resolution is set to 32 bits, issue or non-issue since MWO is 64-bit?)

-Ram 16 GB

-1TB SSD / 216 GB HDD


Now the direct issue is that I've done both Steam and standalone install, im currently sitting on the standalone. When i try to launch the game from either steam or the Portal the game will launch, shows up in task manager, and gives the little black screen before it goes into full window.

At that moment the game will crash completely and nothing will happen.

I've done complete re-installs and even tried downloading old drivers such as the nvidia driver geforce 361.91 and it didn't work as my labtop isnt compatible although the driver was made for windows 10.

I've also tried running both versions of the game as an admin and did not work. I feel as though this is something to do with the files and coding which is a bit beyond my understanding. so a detailed resolve will be much appreciated as most answers to this problem have been very vague, im also aware of MWO latest update in 2019 and wondering if this could be part of my issue, but the resolve they give on the portal doesnt work for me as it doesnt actually seem to be my issue that im having.

again. Ill click launch portal. Play game. Small black screen. crash. repeat.

I hope this is enough information, honestly I'd prefer to play on steam. and also my labtop will run MW5:mercs just fine.

Just for clarification, 32-bit and 64-bit has to due with the Operating system itself.

Generate and post the first section of your dxdiag, from the top to sound card entries.

Start the standalone, before hitting Play click on the upper left (3 lines) and run MWO Repair Tool. Click on Options and select everything, then Start Scan. Note details (copy and paste) then Fix Issues.

That is the first step.

Thanks Tarl, and i never realised, going through what you suggested rn, i had already uninstalled it, trying for a re-install now.

But can you be more specific on where to find those "3 lines"? because if im supposed to have a launcher show up, its not. i dont get any windows from the game itself.

Im just having a hard time what you mean here :(

I also have another guy trying to help me figure out why its not working on steam, and it seems to be a totally different issue. something about extra unnecessary Rendering files

Again, this is from the Standalone, not the Steam installation.

Are you running the computer at native resolution? 1920 x 1080 ?

Nvidia control panel, 3D / Power Management mode - change from adaptive to Max Performance
System Power Options - plugged in, change to High Performance.

And on the Nvidia driver, go the mfg website and download their driver and install it, doing a Clean install.

Didnt help me.

Even support is not answering.

>IF< i get into Hangar i cant switch my mechs.
If a try to join a QuickPlay i get the message "failed to find match".
Cant Customize my Mechs.

Any solution or workaround ?

Delete your "cache" folder seems to fix alot of stuff

Even stuff not related to graphics, true story......Can't login...delete cache...Fixed...WTF

Anyway the cache folder is found at in Windows 10 under

C:\Users\WhatYouLogonAs\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\Shaders\Cache

Only delete the cache folder.

To be extra safe, restart computer and Try again.

Edit: One more thing

The game is 64bit OP, which is not related to the 32 bit graphics you describe.

One last thing to check is in fact your OS.

Is your Windows 10 64bit or 32bit.

Coz if your Win10 is 32bit, unfortunately you will not be able to play MWO
until you upgrade to Win 10 64bit.

To check if 32bit or 64bit Windows:

To find out which version of Windows your device is running, press the Windows logo key + R, type winver in the Open box, and then select OK.
Here’s how to learn more:




  • Select the Start button > Settings > System > About .

    Open About settings




  • Under Device specifications > System type, see if you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.




  • Under Windows specifications, check which edition and version of Windows your device is running.
MWO cannot run on 32 bit Windows



You must have 64 bit Windows.

PGI changed the game from 32/64bit to 64bit only from memory

-Hangar often takes Minues to load
-I can not switch my Mech
-I cant enter Mechlab, it just ignores me klicking it ( sometimes )
-I can not search 4 a Quick Match -> "failed to find match" -> suddenly my Mech is ingame and locked -> getting penaltys
-I can not choose my region to play ( Ociana , America , Europe )
-I can not see the % of mechs currently i queue
-50% of the times i manage to get into a match ( about 1 match per hour of trying ) i get suck in Mapvote screen. Have to ALT F4 and restart and rejoin in order to play this match.

Did you have a disconnect in that log ?

I don't see any UI errors in the logs. But you can get rid of the textures errors by changing your texture setting to HIGH (VERY HIGH is exactly the same as HIGH).

I'm always a little worried by the cryengine texture settings used by PGI on LOW and MEDIUM. They use textures not adapted for those settings, hence the CTexMan errors.

If you still have problems, you should erase your MWO user folder in C:\Users\[your windows account]\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online (i think it's not done by the uninstall/repair)
1. erase evertyhing except the Profiles folder and the file game.cfg.
2. If it still does not work erase the whole folder.
