For some reason I prefer to torso twist with arms unlocked. When locked, it takes way too much mouse input. I go back and forth between the two. Works great.

I prefer locked since the torso has acceleration and deceleration when moving towards the mouse cursor, slowing down the twist speed a smudge compared to locked torso movement.

I almost always use armlock, because my weapons are mounted in the torsos usually anyway I find that having the extra reticule is a distraction. It also moves your pilot's head, causing the illusion when shielding back and forth that your torso is twisted further than it is. Sometimes it's necessary to switch it off briefly, and in 'Mechs like the Rifleman IIC or Warhawk where you can't actuate sideways or your weapons are all arm mounted I have it switched off always.

I toggle. On for slow twists or maneuvering, off for arm-mount shots and damage-rolling. Works for me!

i always use a coordinated twist/legs turn when i need to twist off damage, unless the legs are out of armor and i need to keep one behind the other.
