I think the Update Roadmap makes sense given the age of the game and the engine it is on. I'd like to see MWO last a few more years on maintenance mode as I really enjoy playing it.

What would really get me excited is a MWO2 because I think in the end PGI made MWO into a fun and balanced game with good combat mechanics. The matchmaker seems to be the biggest problem so maybe they can invest in doing that better next time or hire it out to a third party. MWO2 on a better engine with new maps and similar game modes would be a success in my mind. They'd have to earn money off it of course so premium time and re-purchasing mechs would have to be on the table. But maybe if you have a MWO account you can port over some number of mechs.

My optimistic take is that Daeron read and thoughtfully considered all the player input he could, went to HQ and got turned away with half a dozen low-impact bullet points stretched over a calendar year.

Realistically it's usually something like "Okay. Great. How much of that can you do without taking one of my expensive engineers away from more important things?"

Fair point -- but I think there are improvements requiring minimal dev time that disproportionately reinvigorate the game an/or address longstanding player requests, and the current outlook has none of them. I acknowledge the extreme you're describing, but this is the other end of the spectrum.

given that the game might have the worst matchmaking solution in the history of matchmakers, i'm happy that dev attention is going to bolt-ons, obviously.

Thanks for the link to the Summary. It looks like I will be gone within a few months then. I did not see mention of a single map. So much for actual work on the game.

Having read the summary I'm pretty disappointed too, there's nothing on thee that improves the game in any way other than marginally (e.g. how many people actually use bolt ons? I haven't seen one anytime recently), nothing that addresses fundamental problems, and shows exactly the same level of attention as we've experienced the last few years.

Still I'm happy down here in tier 5 with my IS mechs and I can play for fun without getting stressed about win rates, builds, IS v Crybaby balance, etc, etc.

I'm now waiting to see if they can pull off this part of the roadmap:
  • Monthly Missions for a Free Mech - MARCH
One step at a time. I was expecting an announcement for this no later than the 5th (for consistency?), but we'll see what happens.

The last one dropped on the 8th so i'd assume the next one is around then.

I thought it was the 5th. Alright. Let's see what happens around the 8th to find out if they are on track.

There is a company that purchased all the dead MMOs and runs them all under their product umbrella.

Whats the story behind that?

They just buy dead games for cheap and run the servers with zero development for any of them.

I wonder whats the business plan behind that?
Low income but zero development costs?

Its been a good chunk of march and its deathly silent.. Does not bode well.

Question how do we claim a free mech if PGI doesn't give us enough time to actually do the event? to get it.

I wouldn't worry about that. The Huntsman only took an hour or two to unlock.

Hosting servers is actually fairly cheap and you only need a trickle of income to keep them running. The meat of the costs of any ongoing online game is development of new content. Games that are already finished can exist for years with a small population and still thrive if the only costs are server hosting.

They certainly need to be more consistent like starting new events on the same date to keep the ball rolling. It would feel odd if events for a new mech started on different dates each month.

We need some stuff like daily missions for credits and xp in addition to events with the nice payouts. World of tanks does the mission thing pretty well and there is always something to grind for.
