I'm neither glass half empty nor half full, more like glass tipped over.

I sorta pictured the glass as more of a white porcelain affair with a handle and a seat.

It is all very minimal and nothing is certain. Even if they say more resources will be available in the latter half of the year, that doesn't really mean anything.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if they get a few more quality of life updates to the game, but honestly that's quite a stretch already. If they somehow manage to fix spawn points so that Charlie lance isn't always killed by a wolfpack in some maps and modes then that's already something for this year.

I'll be frank, my impression is that MWO is still low priority in the big picture. The MWO "team" might make it sound like it's a big deal to them, but it still isn't a big deal to PGI as a whole.
  • I do not expect them to properly update and fill out the Wiki by the end of the year (or ever).
  • Opening up the Discord has nothing to do with MWO. It's Discord.
  • I expect VLOGs to lessen over time and not have much solid information that hasn't already been mentioned.
  • The roadmap will most likely be 70% wishful thinking or just bare bones if they want to meet their targets.
Now let's see... from everything that was listed, if they fix spawn points and release some Steam packs, I'll consider my expectations for MWO in 2021 exceeded.

This isn't me simply being negative or snark about it. You don't just leave the game running on fumes for this long and expect people to suddenly be onboard with the idea that lots of good changes are coming out of the blue. Their wording is also careful so that they have an 'out' later in the year if things don't work out and they can just say 'We didn't get the resources we needed' and close the year with that.

If you don't want to be severely disappointed or angry by the end of this year then I suggest you temper your expectations accordingly. Feel free to give your suggestions and constructive feedback, but don't expect miracles. Posted Image

If nothing else it was transparent. Maybe a little too transparent for MWO's community, but that's the internet for you.

Given that development on the game had been shuttered years ago, it's more than I was expecting.

I think there's a lot of potential for improvements to the core experience that won't require engineering resources or too much designer bandwidth. It'll just take some creativity.

I'm beyond caring.

Just kind of tired of hearing how pretend excited Daeron is about all of this pretend progress. Matt Newman doesn't do that.

I'm more interested in what EG7 thinks, but it will probably take a year to find out.

All you really need to do is compare the points they brought up in the Command Chair discussion threads for 2021 and what they are saying they might be able to do if all the stars and planets align so they can get blessed with some developer time.

Still a fair bit of work PGI has to do to make me feel like I should listen to and trust them.

It's very minimalistic just so that people have something to talk about, nothing more.
Of all the things announced and promised I expect only 20% to be actually realized.

Also reaping of super low hanging fruit like "propose a new variant".
New variants sounds like a good idea but only if they bring something new and fill a niche.
For example clan is missing a mech that can reasonably fit 4xLBX10 and is not a 100t mech.
Or IS is missing a mech with something like 12 energy slots to fit 12x (ER) ML.
If they bring new variants that just trades one slot for another it wont make a difference.

Personally, I hope for another MWO in like 10 years or so.
I dont expect anything remarkable from this MWO and PGI anymore.

TL:DR
I am a "the glass is an illusion" type of guy when it comes to PGI.

It is as many people thought, a way to boost pop with expectations to ensure the company sale goes smoothly by end of January.

My optimistic take is that Daeron read and thoughtfully considered all the player input he could, went to HQ and got turned away with half a dozen low-impact bullet points stretched over a calendar year.

There is a company that purchased all the dead MMOs and runs them all under their product umbrella.
