I was just wondering, what would have happened if Escort was 4v4? Of course the Escort should have lowered HP.

The guy, Birthday Truck, talked about the "Golden-Triangle", that which the 12-v-12 lacks, and the Conquest provides because it breaks up the 12v12.

The Escort was universally considered horrible, personally it was meh, and the biggest problem for me was the Radar as it forces you to expose yourself to say LRM fire even as a scout.

I think the dev & streamer hunt is the new version of escort Posted Image Or they could basically develop it into that. Not as a main game mode, but as a secondary objective in the matches etc.

I'll be honest, nobody likes escort missions.

Period. End of Story. They're bad by design.

Everyone... I'll agree that an Asymmetric Escort Mode was definitely not the best idea. That goes double because of effects caused by Events about the availability of that Mode and how one side does not get the opportunity during a Match to even attack the VIP Mech because they're the ones defending it. :(

That said, if they ever decide to make a Symmetric Escort Mode for people to play, then it would be an improvement. If it had been done right in the original introduction, then both sides would have at least one VIP Mech to defend and also one to attack. So if we get a Symmetric Escort Edition to fight on, then I would be rather supportive of the return of Escort as an option to play.

EDIT :: By the way, keep Escort as 12v12 and/or 8v8 in a new rendition of it. Doing a 4v4 Edition would not leave enough firepower at the end to take out the VIP Mech in many cases.

I kinda liked it on Polar. Fights could happen all over that map rather than always in the middle and if you were fast enough you could set up an ambush for any light trying to capture sensors. It was actually fun. But on any other map? Ehhh... *shrug*

I loved escort.. it had the best brawling matches in the game back in the day.. That said Escort had two major issues..

The defending team could not see where the escort was going.. It should have been highlighted on the map.
The defending team had no control over the escort.. The Damn thing would just walk into the enemies like an idiot, We should have been able to direct him with command issues.

If those items had been fixed it would have somewhat worked..

I always felt that one atlas wasn't really a very good escort it should have been a lance of mechs or tanks, trucks etc.

Escort will never work for the same reasons argued when it was first introduced one of which MeanMachinE points to here:

Main point, the people being hunted fight back as humans do, the AI Escort never fought back.

Well escort modes or levels in games are not my favorite at all, a 4v4 version would probably be better than a 12v12 but I'm doubtful it'd be enjoyable. I'd suggest a QP version of FP. Like one team defends a dropship, ideally an Overlord or other suitably powerful ship. They did make a Hrothgar for MW5 so it could be something.

Escort in Faction Play, dropping a team-selected player in an assault of their choice, set on a large no-respawn map with a lot of LOS blocks, could work. Give each side a few Incursion-style powers, and score matches entirely on distance to extraction and damage to VIP. You could have VIP challenge achievements based on chassis survivability for units who wanted to say they did it. Maybe a variant where lighter teams need to hit checkpoints that heavier teams can't easily reach in full force.

The base concept of Escort was salvageable, the execution sucked. The defenders had NO idea what route the Atlas was going to take, could not plan a strategy around that, and just piling armor onto the Implacable Mech Of Doom was not much of a solution.

So I will repear myself again: having a VIP that acts as a mobile capture point, with the attackers trying to capture it and guide it to their own evac zone, could work much better than making it an assassination target. The VIP moves when one of your team members is in range and not contested by the enemy. Bam, done.

A thought I had today.
Use something like the Battery being carried indicator for a player Escort.

1 - Make a VIP indicator that at match start gets assigned to a random player on the Escort team. All allies can see it easy including in match, enemies when targeting the VIP.
2 - Place a base behind the Attack team and a single Base Countdown Timer at top below Match Time.
3 - VIP goal is to get to base and sit in it until timer reaches zero.

EDIT - You would need special code to never put a ECM Mech as VIP, no one wants Stealth ECM Mechs in that role.

Along with what others have already said, the main problem with Escort was the idiotic behavior of the VIP. Either much better AI for it or make it player-piloted and that mode would have worked a lot better.
