Hello new players and old players who somehow still don't do this

When you are firing at the enemy, you need to know where to fire. Is their side torso open? are they close to losing their CT armor? Are their legs weak? You can find all of this out by simply hitting the "r" key and letting the little paper doll tell you what's up.

But! Lots of people forget to do this in the middle of a battle. This is horrible! For one thing, it leads to a lot of wasted shots. For another, it deprives you of all kinds of information about people you're not firing at. Say you have two mechs remaining and you hit r and you see one of them has an open CT. Great! Now you know to fire at their CT! What you should do next is hit R again and cycle to the next guy, so when you're finished with the first one you know what to do with the second.

There is a lot to keep track of in this game, but this is a very easy thing to do and will win you more games, so don't forget to hit R constantly!

Agreed. Further, if they have Re-Mapped their own Targeting Key setting, then they should use that key instead. And if they have made the error (which I've heard some say they did) of unmapping it, then they really should set it again immediately and learn to actually use it! It's seriously NOT only for those Lock-On Boats from the Team which you're put with, but also for one's self in order to have a better sense of what's up. Plus, it can enable calling more easily for Teammates to support and help if the Enemy Target happens to be too much to handle.

It would be fair to expand the topic to how sensors, target info sharing, range for target info sharing, sensor and lock on alarms work at this point.

Especially when NOT to push 'R' because it gives away your prensence even when beeing in a stealth or ECM Mech while not giving any data to your team.

The complaints about ppl beeing hackers cuz they noticed the id..t raven locking on to an assault while no other mech is visible are not even funny anymore at some point.

You're diving into deep strategy here Posted Image
Locking onto an enemy while no other friendly mech is in sight is fine, as long as the target doesn't have invested into Radar Deprivation skills and you can maintain the lock. The flashing and tchirping only happens when the lock is lost.

Well...ok did not want to overburden people...just saying that some background about the workings of Infowarfare (does anybody still remember the pillars of MWO how it was advertised till short after open beta) could be helpfull for people.
Knowing the whole story tends to let ppl remember the bells and whistles better.
