You're so scared that they'll keep demanding "more"?
Yes. Unironically yes. I am worried that, in a game about giant robots shooting each other, they will demand more and more divisive political representation.

Like, did you think all work on women's rights in the USA was finished the exact moment they got the vote in 1920? Would you have also ranted about "OMG what's next? They gonna want equal pay for equal work, too!?"
Why should I care what some Burgerstanians do, so long as it doesnt affect me? But in all honesty, everyone deserves equality and I am very happy that we have equal rights for all in the West.

If this first step opens the door for more? Good. That's what progress is.
No. Progress is improvement. This is not improvement, it is catering to an extremely vocal and politically motivated group of people with a gigantic victim complex that is only outdone by their mammoth ego and desire to make everything they see conform to their desires. It is anything but progress.

I look forward to the day when my own grandchildren find my views backward and appalling,
Given the current state of things, I would dread that as it would mean that something awful had happened to society. The day that free speech and equal rights are backward and appalling is the day that my country ceases to exist.

because it will mean that society has been moving forward.
Society has moved forwards. Men and women are equal, people who are gay or trans are treated just like everyone else. There are greater issues, like the authoritarian stance of my government but this is not a place to discuss these.

I only hope I have the wisdom to stay out of their way, rather than being an old man yelling at clouds.
If society has given up free speech and liberal attitudes for good then I would abandon it. Or fight back.

Or, even better, I find a way to altogether transcend the biases that were inculcated into me since childhood!
What biases? What indoctrination? What horrific place did you attend for your education?

What more do you think they'll demand? Again, nothing has been required of or prohibited to you. The only thing that's changed is that two teams have "trans fights" and "trans rights" in their names. What's the next step here, do you think? Be specific.
I will. But first, you answer mine.
Where, in a game about giant robots shooting each other, does a persons IRL chosen gender enter the picture? Why does it matter if they are trans or gay or bi or whatever? Why does any of this matter in an online game where the most one player sees of another is the battlemech they are piloting? Why do these politics need inserting?

trans folks have had a rough time -- discriminated against both in the law and outside of it, ostracized from family, high rates of suicide as a result of the latter. I don't think allowing "trans fights" and "trans rights" as team names and in chat is the catering you think it is.
Thats weird. Im starting to think this may be down to local culture as nothing you said there applies to my country. But if they can have trans rights as a team name can I please have 4th SS Volksturm? Or 22nd Totenkompf? Its not political, its just a name.
