This is a solution, which I found after tracing my network traffic down for a couple hours.

I am an IT guy, been doing it for literally decades.

I run a website from home, and so, I need a good firewall.

have been using IPFire for a little while, decided to update the IPS (intrusion protection settings)

using emergingthreats.net free community rules, pay very close attention to the emerging-adware_pup.rules

IF you enable them, you will not be able to login to MWO to play, the loader will go thru it's normal steps, right up until the login screen.

if you attempt to login, it goes no further, and eventually times out saying the servers are offline.

you MUST disable the emerging-adware_pup.rules in your IPS settings, or you will never be able to login and proceed.

I guess it is because ingame, the next thing you would see is the small screen showing you the events, and any current sales.

Perhaps PGI could look at this, but hey, I know, I'm like 1% of the players with this config, but I wanted people to know about it.
