I have room for either an AMS or a Targeting Computer on my Rifleman (but not both). Which would you guys recommend? My mech has four light PPC, and I try to stick to medium range.

TC all the way. You'll want to stay in second line with a RFL, where AMS is less effective. Btw. four LPPC seems a bit undergunned for a 60t heavy mech. What else have you got?

Probably TC type 1, although AMS could be useful in lower Tiers, where one can often see a plenty of LRMs.

What model of Rifleman do you have?

Rifleman 5D (I know it's a 5 something). I am in Tier 5 (and I'm not very good, so I'm probably going to be stuck here). I have terrible aim for long distance or against really close fast lights. I see tons of LRMs almost every battle.

With an XL engine, you can do 6 LPPC: https://mwo.nav-alph...5d4467b4_RFL-5D

Reducing mouse sensitivity WAY DOWN can help with aiming a lot. The default is way too fast. I run 0.1 in settings with a moderately high DPI mouse.

Here's my current build code. I'm sure it needs work, because it already runs hot with just 4 light ppc.

In my opinion I do not think that your 'Mech is running too hot (in comparison with some other 'Mechs), but I think that you must learn the heat management. Posted Image

Downgrading your engine to 280 LFE and removing that useless ER Small Laser would let you add 2 more Double heat sinks. It would ease your heat perceived heat problems.

Dropping engine size really helped! Thanks!

It's really your choice. 20 firepower from a heavy 'Mech is not too big.

I would say that eventually you will have to remove some heat sinks and add more weapons.

Question: Are you firing these 4 LPPCs all at once?

Not now. I have them set up for one arm at a time. Heat isn't really an issue anymore.

Avoiding heat scale penalties is neat like that. ;]

I ended up completely changing my weapons out to ER Large Lasers. I'm doing much better with this build, even though the quirks on the mech were for PPC.

You are neglecting some upgrade options for no reason. You still have 25 slots left unused, so you can go for Endosteel Structure and have another 3 tons of weight to spare.

Agreed. That gets you another heat sink and a Target Computer Mk II. Plus... AMS ammo does not explode, so put it in the same location as the AMS. (I'd be a shame to lose the leg and have the AMS stop functioning.

Just saw Prime's post. I'll move the AMS ammo next time I'm in. Thanks!
