Let me know what your opinion is. I'm interested because I recently
Bought A Hero Mech that is definitely overshadowed and Has Poor
Hardpoints Compared to other mechs it's Size. I Bought the Spider Hero
Mech. Went in knowing it was gonna be tough for me to do
"well" in. It may have been A Great Hero back in the day.
Do you think this is one of the worst Hero Mechs?
What are your top 3 Picks?

from worst to less worse:

firestorm
florentine
pirate's bane

i'm really surprised, i didn't realize these were that bad. firestorm is just a reversed ember, and idk why its all the way at the bottom of the stack. the florentine was kind of a fun mech, but i guess the crab sucks as anything but a vomit boat. you can stick a couple rac5s or uac5s on it, and id not have considered that a bad loadout for a medium (thats really a loadout for a bushie though). i think the pirate bane is here for its lack of firepower. it got powercreeped over by the flea a long time ago.

the anansi on the other hand is my best light hero. the k9 follows it closely. on the other hand hero mechs are seldom spectacular, barring a handful of exceptions.

Pretty Baby
Pretty Baby
Pretty Baby.

Awesome is not a great 'Mech to begin with, even with quirks it is and always will be an easy target to hit which must expose itself to fire unless you are running LRMs. The Pretty Baby brings 'crap' to a whole new level with mismatched hardpoints that are hard to build around.

There are a lot of mechs that were decent when released but have been passed by since the quirks and weapons changed, and even since civil war tech was released. I have a Highlander Heavy Metal and a Banshee La Malinche and I just can’t find a build on them I like anymore. And because of omnipods you won’t find a clan mech on the bottom three list…

But for worst three in game as things currently stand…

Jenner Oxide (hit boxes)
Uziel Belial (hit boxes)
Hatamoto Chi Shugo (hard points and quirks)

It's actually pretty strong. Not everyone's mech though.

You want the worst of the worst? Here's the top 3 worst I can vouch for;

Hi There! (Javelin Hero)
Loup De Guerre
Mjolnir

Hi There! is absolutely garbage in every way; 4E, two each in the arms, and 2M, one in each torso; and at 30 tons, you ain't going to do crap in it if at all.

Loup De Guerre; Spread hardpoints, bad hitboxes, Cbill variants outquirk it.

Mjolnir; Tough last one, the other hero that was going to take this spot was the X-5, but I remembered MRMs are good now so it can use them, meanwhile the Mjolnir got quirked for weapons it can't even use properly, pile of junk for now until they properly quirk it to be useful.

I never understood the Bounty Hunter Bushwacker with its ballistics in its arms and not the torso, when you can 3 rac2 a X1 torso.

can't comment on the Mjolnir (other than "Knäckebrooot"), but yeah:

the Loup is 'le garbage', but hey: it's french, what did you expect? *JOKING!*

and that sad, sad 'Hi there!' ..
-I bought the whole package when it came into mwo, and loved it to bits, but the Hi just has everything working against it. to find something good: it is nimble and small-ish, but that's also true about the other variants which simply outclass it in -every- way possible. needs something from the quirk-gods. something big.

3rd worst: La Malinche

2nd worst: Bludgeon

Worthless 1st: Broadside

And some dishonorable mentions: Dark Death, Anansi and Firestorm

My 3 worst are the only Hero mechs Iv ever sold and each of them cost me 15mill ish cbills of experimenting with builds trying to get them to be remotely playable. XP grinding the 3 of them was a nightmare and funny enough all 3 were "free" mechs.

Sekhmet. It’s an Osiris. The worst Osiris.
Death Wish. Any other Hunchback is better. A IIC with only 1 ballistic hard point and no jj, is a IIC with no reason to exist.
Hangover. Oversized, easily focused hitboxes; useless missile arm; all other variants superior.

Both of the Hero Banshees fill 1 and 2

3rd, while i love commandos is the TDK, the hero should have had torso weapons like no other commando has, would have been unique.

And I love the pretty baby, hard to make it work, but when you do you feel badass XD

Pirates Bane is great. Stealth armor, machine guns, excellent heat management.
I got my Ace of Spades in a PB.

i dont know, its sort of like how i do well in the anansi when the op cant do anything with it. i just know i have spread sheets that tell me my overall performance of various mechs, and when i searched for the 3 hero mechs with the lowest scores, those are the 3 that i got. could be bad buiilds or the fact i havent ran a locust since the flea came out, but the locust is not as good as i remember it.

the one i dont understand is the firestorm, its just a reversed hardpoint ember, and the ember has nearly twice its score (still below the average). quirk wise the ember is better with machine guns and the firestorm is better with flamers. but i dont see that being responsible for the wide margins in performance.

Grid Iron was the worst when it came out. Gauss with XL engine in a chassis where everyone targeted the side, so the gauss made of glass would blow the engine up after a couple of incidental hits.

Hey You do well in the Anansi? I made this post after I bought the Anansi with the tiny amounts
Of mc I had left during a hero mech sale. Im trying to get better in light mechs. But this one
I knew would be Even harder. I'm an assault And heavy Pilot mostly. Mediums are good too but
Less used. I'm a Good Cicada Pilot though. Close as I get I guess anyways!! What do you use on your
aAnansi? Like a practical Build i imagine would be light engine 120 Kph Least. JJs
2x med laser. 2x light Machine guns and 1x Srm6. That seems like it would be ok. I had
Gone as far as to Put 1 rotary 2 on it. And just annoy targets who are Big threats.
I imagine when I'm Playing a light I need to stop Basing it off of How much damage I do.
Since Im a heavy and assault pilot I'm usually Happy with 700 to 1000 damage. That's what
I strive for on my channel. And uploads. But I know it's not all about that. It's just being a content creator
And having The "Competition " and general audience and player base who watch MWO
Like to see Damage scores like that. So I'm used to it. But maybe not in lights?;
Any help with this spider hero would be appreciated! Thanks

The Firestorm ok with 3 lt ppc and mgs. The Pirates Bane can do good, just very hard. Oxide and Huginn I still love. Broadside, I turned into a AC20 Snub srm boat to just plow into people.
Grid Iron is so useless to me now, it's quirk is not worth it. X-5 is crappy.Grey Death is hard to use right now. Dao Breaker and Legend Killer are very situational.

The Grey Death requires you to leverage its cooldown quirks and play DPS rather than Alpha. So yeah, that makes it hard to use. But a simple setup with an AC/10 (30 cooldown) and 4 ML (20 cooldown) is a good skirmisher.

Quite a few relatively bad Hero's I spent money on, unfortunately.

-Firestarter hero's are both crap compared to the literally free Firestarter they gave away recently.

-Vapour Eagle Rival is the worst Vapour Eagle

-The Clan IIC Deathwish is the worst Hunchback IIC

-The Blood Kit is the worst Artic Wolf and the only one that isn't an Omnimech - why did I not see this sooner?

Etc.

im pretty much running it like this:

sdr-a

its kind of a knife fighter and team support mech. stay with your team early match and farm missiles with the dual ams to build match score. save your armor for late match, try to stay low and out of the enemy's firing arcs. you can do some light scouting early match if there is not a lot of missiles. if your team did its part, you can move on to the next phase when the ams ammo runs out.

the hmg+sl gives you a higher overall dps than mg+spl (even though their range synergizes better), and its also fully sustainable dps. the latter can do 11dps but only sustain 9, but the former can sustain 11.7 before skills. its a dps build as you can run triggers down until your ammo runs out. you also want to bring strikes to supplement this firepower, max that out. the jjs unfortunately needed to be sacrificed (this mech is a lot less viable with them than without). the lasers and mgs are both hitscan so group them together, with the missiles on a separate group.

11.7 dps isn't really that much. its a bit better than a rac5 and it neither jams nor overheats. this thing wont win against anything with armor in a fair fight. chewing up an unobservant mech's backplate is always an option, but bail if they look like they can fight back. you can also to do hit and runs on mechs with holes in the armor. be sure to max out your target info gathering and press r a lot. you are going to need to know where to hit them, and before they see you.

for skills id go for maximum cooldown to get the dps up, a few heat gen nodes to keep the mech heat neutral (im not quite sure how many, just upgrade until you stop overheating or use the testing ground (dont bother, the correct number is zero, ran around tourmaline with my guns blazing and used up 80% of my ammo before heat was an issue). all the missile and laser skills, and ballistic ammo capacity. ams overload. max out the strike branch of the consumables tree (get the extra node for a uav, useful for some points). maximum speed tweak/kinetic (you dont need the breaks as this is not a hill humper, keep it moving). at least 60% radar derp. you should have enough left for either range or armor, i took the armor.

also keep in mind when i say "doing well" what i really mean is that it performs above average. its only really getting 257.83 match score on average. much of its charm comes from the fact that nobody considers it a threat. there are lights that do this job better.
