Returning Player, What Is The Tl;dr On What's Changed?

But before I do, my question is: What has changed since then? I mean in terms of major game mechanics and the meta. Things I'd need to know going back in. For one, I don't remember if there was a skill tree back then, and I definitely don't know how it works now. I don't want to come back only to go into a match with one of my old mechs and get curb-stomped because the weapons I used to use are now unviable or they have upgrades that I don't.

I personally call this MWO Reloaded

(Major MWO overhaul since April 2021, known as MWO/Cauldron Patches)
Lots of toys to play with, and MWO feels like a new game to me

~New weapons (Civil War timeline)
~New mech chassis (Crusader, Dervish, etc.)
~Even Special Variants of the very popular mechs frequently played (aka Platinum Collection)
~3 new maps, and more incoming!

Gone since 2015?

Civil War timeline (July 2017)
IS: Light Engine (engine does not explode upon side torso destruction, unlike the infamous XL Engine)
IS: Light-Ferro-Fibrous Armor, Stealth Armor
IS: RAC, MRM, Light/Heavy Gauss, various PPC (Snub-Nose PPC, Light PPC, Heavy PPC), etc.
Clan: ATM, Heavy Lasers, ER Micro Lasers, etc.
Lots of toys to pay with since this Civil War timeline update!

1. New Skill Tree (circa 2022): skilling up your mech Skill Tree has never been easier!
2. Weapon upgrade.
~New weapons introduced since you've left (via Civil War timeline detailed above)
~Weapons/ammunition themselves cannot be upgraded, so the new weapon you've just bought is exactly the same as the same weapon owned by payers who have been playing for 8-9 years!
In short, MWO is a very 'flat' game; new (or returning) player can get up to speed in terms of weapons/skill_tree/mech very quickly, and is on the same footing as veteran players in this aspect.
Skilling up the pilot is entirely another matter though (ie: me!)

But seriously, why don't you install MWO and find out for yourself?
And you get a free Hero mech of your choice too, 7 more days until this is over.
Certainly a challenge, but still doable...

Well neither of those are meta, with wolfhound you can probably do ok if you play well. AMS doesn't provide matchscore (so I have heard) so yeah you can be somewhat useful in it but most likely won't keep you in T1 anymore.

Yeah, AMS can no longer be used for matchscore farming.

on a side note you should just forget abut Meta and just play what you have fun with. screw PSR or any of that ****. just play and have fun without stressing over all that extra nonsense. most meta try hards are just cry babies anyway (oh the tears when i rain LRM on them from behind cover (or not i get what locks i can) and they die because they thought that AMS was a waste of tonnage.)
