Well that explains the er med laser buff to heat and 1X hsl quirks.

Good lord is this good at pumping out damage now..

Is this a clan laser vomit?

Keep in mind this is before skills. After full heat nodes and cool run you just keep shooting and shooting and shooting full alphas and with range nodes get a sweet 450m optimal.

And by 'better time' do you mean go explodey on torso destruction? Posted Image

"better time" as faster, cooler, better.

How would this better XL-build look like? The 3-Slots for double IS-heat sinks seem to favor the LE engines. My build would look quiet similar to Meep Meeps (with standard armor, another heatsink and some armor shaved off head and legs).

I didn't manage to get better stats with an XL-Engine.

-light ferro, +XL engine.
packs 1more heatsink, has 2tons and slots to spare for %stuff%

For this ERML build it isn't much different for real because weapon weight is so low, but like Teenage Mutant Ninja Urbie said, take off light ferro add max rated XL engine and still have 3 tons and 5 slots to use compared to LFE, I would use them like this --> bj-1x

So, dead on torso death and losing a good chunk of cooling with loss of the arm sinks after the armor is stripped and crits roll in for an extra 4kph and one more sink for a teensy bit of extra cooling on a build that is already super cool? Dunno man.. Posted Image

Sure. But even without a tc its already 450m optimal so a few extra meters isn't going to matter much since most common combat happens in that range. But if you feel comfy with xl torso death then go ahead! I've seen some pretty fragile builds work quite well as long as the driver isn't dumb. Posted Image

Edit:

Also wouldn't this be 'better' since you are still going over 100kph but you gain another sink and only lose 1% beam range going down to a tc1?

I haven't played a BJ in a while, but I remember them having paper thin side torso's, even for a medium.
I wouldn't fault anyone for avoiding an XL in them.

So far my experience is you lose torso long before you lose the ct if your twist and dodge game is competent. Arms seem to not attract too much damage as everyone shoots you center mass. Getting full armor and structure nodes is definitely a priority for survivability as it has decent structure for a medium.

This mech caps at an XL 295. That grants another 7 kph and one more heat sink over the light 270 i built mine with for the addition of side torso death. Even missing a side torso, you have 4 ERML and the ability to use them, so I personally opt for the light engine.

If you don't think 95kph is too slow then there is this build.

Do not XL a BJ unless losing a side torso would totally gimp you anyways or you are taking advantage of its corner peaking ability (which is one of the best), they have totally unprotected low armor and easy to shoot side torsos.

Drive it like a light mech, I.e., don’t brawl, the extra range of the ermls make it relatively xl safe if you keep moving.

IMHO.

Yeah er meds seem to be the meta weapons for it and not sure what the pulse hsl are for because it really isn't a brawler at all even lanced up to share armor. Not even sure you can get a viable full pulse build even with xl.

Ok settled on the last build I put up with this skill tree after using everyone's recommendations.

a57158d8d744d8a460e49cdf5ef20743c405a0000c06e134b064764000000

A lot tankier that it would seem and the constant stream of pewpew by poking ridges can rack up damage fast as you do ~70% of your alpha at 600m+ and can tickle mechs a bit over 900m.

Can alpha six times in a row under full speed which is 102kph after speed tweak and almost eight alphas when stationary just have to wait a second or so before you can fire the eighth.

I'm liking this a lot so far.

Quite comfortable putting medium standard lasers on it until it's skilled up a bit more. I tried pulses but that overheated really quickly - two consecutive alphas and then run away to hide. The extra weight also limited the engine size, which limits the cooling.

Medium standards give me three consecutive alphas.
