The lasers on the dropships are barely a pinprick when there's two lances of assaults standing around.
A simple improvement might be that a mech coming from a dropship gets something like 15-30 seconds of total immunity from damage.
30 seconds is not enough to get near the center of the map, but enough to get into cover, or put some serious damage into a spawnkilling player.
