It's also needlessly restrictive.

But I think I'm going to report all these threads for moderation. They definitely violate the forum Code of Conduct, and they're starting to look... similar. Similar sentiments, a subjective complaint, and a new account that just throws up the title to discourage new players and nopes out from all of us trying to help them.

there's a problem with locking cadets out of any mech because some can be bought from the start locking people out of their bought mechs is a surefire way to push people out of a game.

My thoughts were more with Trial mechs only. Or have it as part of the Academy "training" discussion, with NPC fleas/etc chasing the assault around, shooting it in the back or legging it then running lights and having it one-shot by everything Posted Image

It was thoughts, and way pass anything actually being done since it is in maintenance mode.

Edit - Actually, in the Academy have it setup so there are training script for each class, showcasing both good and bad points in general, ie lights quick and nimble but not lots of armor, assaults with armor/potential firepower but slow with mediums/heaviies the middle of the road.

Again this really limits Cadets how can they learn to use assaults if they don't get trial mechs in that weight class? I think Trial mechs should be learning mechs, though it should be stated that these mechs come with thier own skill tree, and maybe even a way to copy such skill tree yourself?

Players have different playing styles, and should be able to learn the 'mechs they like. Artificially gating 'mechs - trials or otherwise - will be detrimental, and for a very dubious gain. Players already noticeably prefer Heavy and Assault chassis; channeling into those 'mechs involuntarily can only exacerbate the issue.
