I put in a poll to get a general weight class of what you want to pilot, but I put a few *null* suggestions in case you don't feel like voting. May go back and change it later although it could spoil fun.

Why not. Its not like we lose anything of value if Nooby McNoobinson blows up. And if he is in an Atlas at least he takes a while until he does.
More time for us to blow stuff up with our own 'mechs (read, our own Atlas)

Fair enough. But I still prefer something a bit more maneuverable than a fortification. I know I'm risking it, but I should probably ride something closer to the scout range... like a Zeus.
EDIT: Though depending on how the timeline goes, I can't wait to get my hands on a little Hauptmann. I know it'll be forever, considering the 1:1 timeline, but hey, I'll have something to look forward to.

Now that writing something for purely satirical purposes is out of the way, (read: LOL JK) if I decide to join House Steiner, it will be a nice twist trying to race to a SMALLER mech, and if not, I shall feel epic while rendering multiple, noob piloted Atlases totally inoperative.

Wolf Hound, Hatchetman, Griffin, Warhammer, Axeman, Zeus, Atlas
The Commando from MW2: Mercs was also a pretty sweet ride.

"It's the assault mech that feels like a Medium!"
Thousands were made over the centuries; let the recruits start in a big hunk of salvage.
Or maybe a 3M if they want some clan simulation.
Peace thru superior firepower...

I'm ready for the grind to 95-ton mechs.

It packs a medium laser, SRM-4, and SRM-6. For a light mech, it's got a nasty punch.
Best of all, it doesn't have jumpjets. Just like an Atlas.

Medium Progression: Hatchetman (if possible); Griffon (variants cover a wide range of distances); Wolverine; Lynx
Heavy: Crossbow(fire support); Marauder(long)/Rifleman(short); Crusader(short)/Warhammer(long); Axeman(short)/Flashman(long);
Assault: Banshee, Battlemaster, Zeus, Atlas

When the Lyran Commenwealth produced Zeus and Atlas in same numbers like Draconis Combine produce Jenner and Panthers that should be considered.
A Commando with all its variants would be nice (Prototype with Large Laser...double SRM 6s for Armor...)
No Wolfhound at the very beginning in 3049 it is only a 20years old model.
As revanus considered some unique mechs could be nice too: like Crossbow, Ymir
I think a medicore medium Mech like Centurion/Chameleon would be best for the beginning.
