Mechwarrior 2 was also a technological marvel of its age.

LOL

I remember when we were building PCs for HP (what you know as Pavilions) way back then and they (HP) decided to bundle MW2 Mercs with 'certain machines'.

At one time in my stock room, I had over 65,000 copies of the MW2Mercs CD. That number did not include what we had already shipped and what was in process. That was just unallocated stock. We never had any 'excess' of these when the HP promo went end of life. I still have one of those CDs that came in my old Pavilion at the time and the version I actually bought prior to getting the Pavilion.

Just for the record, there were no differences in the versions, except the retail version had the pretty box and CD sleeve. The HP version was just a CD in a CD case sealed in (shrink wrap) plastic.

Have you ever looked into mech2.org?

All you need is DOSBox and a bit of tinkering to get MW2 and Mercs running flawlessly (I havea downloaded MW2:Mercs and except for music, vids and "tutorial commentary" :) it works perfectly). Haven't tried GBL, but it should be work the same.

sadly, i'm not as savvy as i once was with computers.. however, once i get a chance to truely sit down and tinker... i'll give it a go. something tells me though that i'll not be able to use my original disks.. and another note, i've nore quite figured out how to utilize DOSbox yet.... but.. again, that's probably part of the "tinkering' process.

In my opinion, Mechwarrior 3 is still the best looking MW game. In terms of art design and textures, it far surpassed the later MW4. And the 'Mech models looked amazing given how few polys they were working with.

But MWO is giving it a run for its money.
