To me, paying should be a way of getting something you want quickly.

It feels strange if the only way to get something is to use real world money.

I'd pay for nearly anything, as long as I could earn it with in-game credits or something. If credits were an option, I'd definitely pay for a credit boost so you can rack up the dough quickly.

Things I would buy:

1. World Chat Mic.
2. Cockpit items. (Pin-ups, bobble heads, candy bar wraps, trash, etc.)
3. Avatar expressions. (If you were to sit still awhile you can see your avatars hands move around like picking up a candy bar, cig..or even better when you die you can see him get angry and throws things around right before the mech explodes.)
4. In-game music tab. (Where we can upload our own music into it.) this would be the first for me to buy!
5. Skins
6. Extra Character slots
7. Ammo extenders. (holds alittle more ammo. NOT saying as much as DOUBLED, but like 1.5x more or something
8. Extra Avatar custumizing. (like special hair or something)
9. Special Characters from all the mechwarrior games.
10. Donater options.

On the donater option it can be like if you were to spend a dollar a day you can get a certain stat buff but the more money you donate the longer you have that small buff for how much you spend. 10$ = 10 days of that buff. The buff won't be like 5x stronger. It would be like 1.5x - 2x at the MOST.

11. Also, on the skins, you could have them as limited time that range from 7 days -90 days.

Vanity, and Aesthetics.

Special decals, cammo packages, and neato paints that wouldn't otherwise be regularly avaliable. "Brand-Type" Weapons that would give different visuals and/or sound effects when used/fired/etc. Cockpit customization: window tint, HULA GURLS, Photos you can make custom, and have set somewhere in the cockpit. Anything to give all that more -personal- touch to your mech.

I don't care about having different skins - I want to have unique 'Mechs and equipment that make me more viable of a force in the game.

In the EFP announcement it is mentioned that there will be mechs that earn a higher than normal income. I would be willing to pay in the future to add the modifier to other mechs. I don't believe it would affect game balance any, as there will already be a way for me to earn income at an accelerated rate, so why not let me choose what I'm playing while I do it? If the Commando is my favorite mech, let me pay to earn extra while I play my Commando. If I love the Awesome, then I should be able to play that as my primary and still earn the extra income if I pay for it. I'm not gaining anything that I can't gain by other means, I'm simply paying to be able to have more fun while I do it.

Edit: I accidentally a letter.

whatever you're thinking about, remember it actually has to be feasible. I'd like the ability to upload my own music to play in the cockpit like you could in Battlefield Vietnam while riding in certain vehicles, but the game probably doesn't have that functionality. If you compare it to another very successful F2P game League of Legends you'll probably see the same model. Purchase skins, mechs, and mods.

Titles of nobility

Land - some form of basic income

corporations - hard ware/upgrades

Planets - New Avalon - $5K, $8k for Outreach, if it has some form of in game reward like monthly cash flow

I would pay for mechs, weapons, upgrade modules, cbill/exp acceleration, additional storage in the mech bay. Basically anything permanent. I can't say that I would ever pay for repairs or ammo. I can't see wasting money on expendable items or required to continue playing.

Let me be a bit more specific:

Mechs
  • Out of each class (light through assault) a couple of mechs should be bought with real money. This doesn't make the mechs any better than the others, only different.
  • All mechs should be repairable with normal cbills.
  • The purchased mechs could have set weapon configurations that are unique and otherwise unavailable (note: this doesn't mean more powerful, but a unique setup that you couldn't use otherwise).
Weapons
  • Experimental weapons can be purchased that are not explicitly better than stock, but might have greater variety of abilities. A gauss rifle that reloads faster, but only has 2/3 the normal ammo per ton for example.
  • Each improved weapon could have a limit set to reflect rarity.
Modules
  • Like weapons, modules are experimental. They may take up less space, but generate heat (or more heat) or have other limitations.
  • Also limited to how many you can purchase, and may be incompatible with each other (for example, an experimental radar might be incompatible with experimental jammer).
Metagame
  • This is the big money maker. If people can only store 3 mechs and, say 50 tons of equipment, they're going to want to upgrade to hold more. This also holds true if you need to buy and store armor plating and structure.
  • Merc companies should have a shared hangar with additional storage space. This should NOT cost money, but require a LOT of cbills to upgrade. This prevents companies with big spenders from just buying everything. It also prevents litigation that may come from one person fronting hundreds of dollars, then getting kicked from the company. Instead, players should be invited to play more to save up the funds, which will lead to greater volumes of weapon/mech/module purchasing.
  • Make a salvage pit where people can spend a small amount of money to pull random "junk" from the pile. Random parts could be badly damaged mechs, weapons, or modules. These could either be combined in order to be repaired (in other words, 3 ER large lasers have enough parts to put them together into a working ER large laser) or cost a large number of cbills to get into working order. This, of course, depends on how much premium content is going to be offered.

This is exactly what i was thinking

I would pay for the ability to hide my cockpit and use cameras to make up my hud (use full if you multi-screen) so like have 4 diffrent cameras to make up my hud with one as main and the other 3 there to show my sides and rear (i would pay atlest $5 for this but not over $10)

I would gladly pay for one of these bumper stickers in-game, to put on the bottom edge of my cockpit ferroglass:

Alternatively, a Pedobear paintjob for a Catapult (it even has the ears!) would be awesome.

I play STO, they have a lot of visual c-store items. I personally hate it. I'm a developer myself, all I see behind images is more code.

I put big money into things that increase performance or give perks that result in getting even more resources. I don't want to rank fast but I love ot have enough resources/currency to play around a lot, experiment quickly and thus learn the game.

I like Battlestar Galactica Online, impressive for a browser game but that is where technology is. That game allows every weapon and item on ship to be upgraded. If a player wants they can do this by putting more money into the game. I don't want to see MechWarrior go that far, but something close to it would be nice. Maybe something new...

How about we can buy items that apply a final upgrade to our systems/weapons. A level of upgrade that cannot be reached any way other than spending money but the upgrade cannot be applied until the items level is upgraded fully. That I would love, that I would stick around on Startrek Online for, something I may not do. Simply because I have nothing to buy on that game that adds to my gaming experience.

I really hope they get it right with this game. People are willing to pay, they just need to figure out a balanced approach that does not encourage more talk about legislation being created for online gaming.

I'd pay for stuff that allows me to customize my mech, like different colors. I just don't want things in the game that cannot be earned without investing money and that improve the mech. (=Pay2Win)

So. I get to pay $60 every two months for this free-to-play game? Wow. I feel privileged. Well, if I want to actually be competitive. So if they are going to lie about this what else is going to suck? I'm outta here. It wasn't worth the wait. Too bad really, back to tabletop.

I would pay for a good single player campaign

Also small fee for well thought out new map packs.

I would pay for more mech space.

Mech Modding is also something that I would pay for ... tinted windows, big decals to choose from or upload my own Mech art. Maybe small fee to unlock a Mech Mod/Paint Bay.

Or modify the HUD in cockpit.

And oh yeah the ability to rent a server for my buddies an I to have private clan practices or Lan parties.

:(

I would say "skins", and alternate Mech Chassis.

I don't think weapons would be a good idea as you are effectively adding a pay to win mechanic. Chassis are fine as you are limited to "say" 50 tons with a FTP mech and 50 tons for a PTP mech.

Maybe something like exp boosts like in World of tanks?
It wouldn`t be considered OP since it doesn`t improve their mech in a way that it can kill you faster, but it will give you an edge in gaining exp and maybe unlocking some mechs. Also this wouldn`t be OP since you wont be gaining as much currency like others who play some matches extra for that level and may buy a more expensive mech at that time.

The one with the exp boost will just have quicker acces to a new mech (if it`s lvl based).

What would I pay for in a Battletech online game? Well there are many possible purchases that I would consider in a micro-transaction style game. Here are some of the following (please forgive me if they are repeats).

Decals and paint jobs: The ability to change you paint and add decorative decals is a very basic concept, But what about the ability the to change your paint on the battlefield?that would be worth 5$. I would also pay 1$ to upload my own decal and have it placed on my mech. Or better yet buy random (digital) booster pack with decals in them for say 1-3$.

Vanity pets: No I don’t mean a monkey to ride in your cockpit and throw poo at the enemy’s on your view screen. I would ….wait, yea poo throwing monkey works. But what I was thinking was a small vehicle to follow you around. Say a small ground truck with your House banner flying from the back. It could also flee when combat starts and come back when its over. Or what about a drone pet to hover around your mech.

Colored explosions: Change the discharge of you lasers, PPC's, missile explosions, jump-jet exhaust, or any effect to any other color. Neon yellow and black catapult with neon yellow jump-jet exhaust.

Mech decor: flags, taberds, exhaust stacks, antennas, samurai flags, confetti launchers, smoke dispenser tubes. Colored running (chicken) lights. Etc. Anything that would add a non function or quality of life appearance to the mech. Set up some fixed points that the extras can all go on, very little programing involved. For more examples of non function vehicle decoration go to and local car drag-show in your area, or go to japan for extrem examples.

Mech emotes: for the mech's that can let them use emotes. A Thor dropping into a shaolin fighting stance, a panther shadow boxing, a Jenner doing the funky chicken, or a Atlas doing the classic kung-fu “come at me Bro” finger roll. Although technically Battletech mech's are not that limber.

Missions: solo and group missions. World of tanks is fine but I would love to do some questing with my tank buddy’s as well. To quantify the concept into its purest form and not go into hours of mission idea's and descriptions. More than pvp.

Merchandising: t shirts, mugs, hats, bumper-stickers, desk clocks, pencil holders, dog sweaters, energy drinks, movies, pajamas, underwear, etc. Google figureprints for gods sake. How hard would it be to have some one paint a mini of my mech to match its colors, and charge me 100$. right?

In short people want to feel like a individual snowflake and selling them virtual fluf would be a excellent money making venture. For information on these and many other ideas email spiderfiend3@hotmail.com

Camo schemes, decals, banners...

I read a good bit of the post but not all so it some of the suggestions have been mentioned, my appologies.

1. different appearances of modular items. Why have a PPC look the same all the time?
2. I dont see any reason not to be able to have different colored beam weapons beyound the standard red green blue.
3. If there is any kind of guild/or clan setup for people I think it would be a good idea to be able to purchase a guild/clan/lance/battlegroup (or whatever you wanted to call it) logo for your mech beyound the standard House tags.

-Custon Paint/Decal Editor: I would easily pay $5 for and so would countless others apparently. Obviously this would need some moderation process but I wouldnt mind waiting a day for my approved design.

-Windshield wipers

-Larger storage bays for mechs and equipment

Basically anything permanent like that. Obviously this has been said many times before but that's the main point. Also I might pay for some campaign functionality with a team.
