In addition to this, we have found that players differ in their preference in terms of which direction a BattleMech turns while reversing. This too will be added to the Options screen as a selectable choice.

What is meant by this, exactly? Is there some sort of special "quick turn" button (sort of like pressing down + b in resident evil 4) that does a 180 degree turn? That's how it sounds to me, and it would make sense why players might have a preference for how they turn around.

I just brought this up because no one else seemed to notice.

It sounds more like "While reversing, moving your mouse/joystick left will twist your torso right" is going to be an available option for you to tick, should you so choose.

Yeah, basically saying you have the option to invert turn direction when reversing.

So the option, thus, is to swap the directions when you're reversing so that pressing left will actually make your view move left, and likewise for pressing right.

That might be what it is.

yeah, thats how i took it,
when you go forward, pressing right turns your mech clockwise from above view
when you go back, pressing right still turns you clockwise (as in most mech/spaceflight sims i have seen)
and the option is to have your mech turn counter-clockwise when you press right and are going backwards (as in most driving/tank games i've played - and real life tanks and cars)
