I think a voice option should be automatically enabled when joining a game on my team's side. I'd be willing to use it. It should also be automatically enabled for groups and continue to be available inside the game for the team.

So, yes, enable it. Portal 2 has it as well. Simply press "C" and you're voice-chatting.

In my case it's simple. Language.

I have three little kids and don't need to deal with that.

I have ran guilds in other games and met many good people that I am still friends with but you can't stop some people from being fools over voice chat.

You could buy a 20$ throw away headset and just listen to it.
Or heck Just plug in your ear buds!
Just a suggestion though I don't get the excuse parts, specially when typing is a pain in mid-combat.
But ya, people are Extreme "Ragers" for no reason, they think if they curse and Rage that'll they're validated as "gamers", and automatically smarter then everyone else. It's really weird. :P

I wouldn't call myself a noob, but I will throw in the reason why I didn't join any TS server to play MWO:

Because I can't ******* find any adress.

How about adding that option to your poll?

or learn to search the beta forums? DERP!

I PUG when I only have a little bit of spare time to play.

I used to drop in groups during my longer play sessions, but I got annoyed at how difficult it was to convince people to do Group v Group matches. Frankly, I think it's pathetic if at any point there are 16 active people in the TS channel and they aren't rolling group v group. Rolling against PUGs is dull, so I stopped doing that.

i like the pugs as it's tends to be an actual challenge, more so than a well the oiled machines of some prebuilds, with their assigned roles designed to win only (i.e. coordinated lrm boats... how much more boring can you get) and not necessarily have fun. i don't mind voip or ts or grouping with a few friends to blow stuff up. it'd be nice to have automatic voip for your groups that you can disable in-game as sometimes i don't really care to hear some of the a$$ holes (or myself if i'm in a bad mood) when i play this game. i plan on joining a company when this game moves beyond death match, but i'd just rather have fun playing how i want to play. i usually tell everyone on my team what i'm going to be doing and if they can support me that's great... if not then, oh well another repair bill because i bit off more than i could chew in my nice little jenner. :D

As a lone wolf merc, I find that it doesnt matter what side I'm on as long as the money is good! I pilot a Commando so I know I'm not going to be dealing out the hurt, but that doesnt stop me from doing my role as support. You know stayin close to the team, using my AMS to knock out incoming LRM's, get that lock-on so my team can rain hell on someone. So as you can see it doesnt matter if I talk, Just have to keep my eyes open and go where I'm needed.

This basicly sums up why I don't. I know my role, been playing these sorts of games for a very long time. I know how to read the situation and adjust, I know how to go where I'm needed and I don't need someone screaming in my ear barking orders to get me there. I don't like talking and well I've been in many clans/guilds/whatever you want to call them in there game and every single one has been nothing but ego and elitist that think they are gods gift. I don't need that when all I want to do is sit down and enjoy a game, win or lose, all I care about is if I had fun. Fun is the key I think many forget about, to caught up in being the best of the best they forget that games are here to entertain, not to see who has the biggest *****.

I do agree with this. So why not just incorporate live chat into the game WITH the Mute players option? You only hear your teammates, which prevents smack talk, and make it quick to mute players? just an idea feel, free to rebuttal this.

One thing that I think is not so good right now is the lack of in-game VOIP. You should be able to assign a Push-To-Talk key in the game & a Mute Team key in the game. Just something basic that works & is integrated. The addition of 3rd party **** is weak.

I voted:
Other
and
Nothing I will not participate and would rather not play. (idk what you're trying to say with this option, but it was the closest to what I wanted)

I don't like talking to random internet people, specifically. When I play with my friends, I talk on skype. When I lone wolf, I would listen to an in-game voice option, but I will not jump through any hoops to do so.

Also, even when there is seamless in-game voip, I don't talk when I play solo, although I do listen and type. (once in a great while if I run into someone who's polite and communicating usefully I might talk with them, but usually just typing.

As for the why of it, dunno. Probably a social anxiety thing?

Part of the interest in being a playtester is to experience the game as a beginner. I figure most people who try MWO for the first time are going to be in PUGS.

The experience these new players face and all of the challenges, including the economy, the premades ripping the orifices our of them, the fun of discovering different things on the maps, the advancement trees and role warfare, etc, those things matter on a playtesting level.

The game can't succeed unless the designers know the full story, premades, pugs, bots, and all of it. Only then can they make the adjustments needed to make the great idea that is MWO into the great game it will be.

The game HAS to be fun for new players, or it will die.

I can't repeat that enough.

Right now the main focus has to be on fixing the mundane stuff, bugs in the engine, server and capacity issues, integration of content. The designers know the play balance is way over on the side of premades, for obvious reasons, and it's in fact a good thing that the premades are exploiting their advantages in the Beta, As far as I have seen, they are taking steps (including partnership with C3), to provide more options to correct the balance. But again that's not the number one priority. You have to first have a working game in order to address balance within that game.

So I'm staying tuned.

I have downloaded C3, (and Vent and TS3),, I have a headset, which is not PTT, but I have not really decided on a group to join, (if any would have me). I'm still learning the 'mechs. I have gotten into elite in three sets of chassis, Hunchie, Cat and Atlas and am trying out the jenner to see what kind of light pilot I can become. I know my kill/death ratio sucks, but that goes with the territory, and makes those odd days when I shoot down 3-4 opponents that much sweeter.

Good luck all and good hunting. And thanks to PGI for this incredible opportunity to stomp around the Inner Sphere for a few hours a day!

Personally, I'd like to play with people I know rather than strangers. Unfortunately, I'm the only one with closed beta access out of all of the people I know. But let's face it guys, just because there's an MWO teamspeak available isn't a very good excuse to send premades against PUGs. Neither is the arguable point "this is a team oriented game so its meant to be played with teamspeak/etc."

I don't have the time or motivation to organize with players or find groups to join. I don't play MWO for very long per sitting and I want to fight robots.

If you could voice chat with pugs I would voice chat. I already do text chat with pugs.

If you could be matchmade into a premade that stayed together after matches and had integrated coms I might do that too.

But as it stands I can't be bothered to find people to play with and I don't mind pugging.

Well, why do I not use comms for MWO.

I think it's mostly because I think of myself as an independent operator. If I want to run off, power down and then charge head long into battle after half my team has been mopped up, I really don't want to listen to "what the #@#$@#$ you doing man, your're killing us"

I'm a Lonewolf, I'm here for beer and C-Bills!

I have a low tolerance for politics, cliques, ***** leaders, and all the other BS that happens in groups. I find it more fun to play in a group for a while, then spend some time answering to no one but myself, then playing with another group, etc.

If I could find a group as relaxed as I am, but without the rivalries and morons at the top, I'd probably stay with them.

Then again, I enjoyed being a member of GoonSwarm in Eve (twice), so maybe I'm just slightly deranged...

Telco has such hopelessly stingy Download if I wanted to play it would be silent. That does not mean that I could be excluded from tactical/strategic play. I would just need some command and control options such as in BF2. Ability to draw lines on a map set markers and such, like in DayZ mod. I'd really like that even better than voice... it might already be there I am downloading the client right now actually I doubt it though.

WOUld be so cool to have a marker appear at a location on the map and a symbol indicating the desired mission type and which lance or companies are required to perform the task. Even different intel levels based on rank. Company commanders can see company commands and they in turn issue commands to their lance commanders who issue commands to their dirt stompers.

Yeah right, you'll just pawn it for more MC points. We're on to your game... I got a decent Sennheiser offa Amazon for 20 bucks, and there are plenty of good'nuff headsets for 10-15 bucks. :D

What is a pug anyway?

I have no idea what a "pug" is besides a small dog. But you are right, I would pawn it for more MC or a 6-pack of A&W Root Beer. :P
