Hey -

I've played many many PC games over the past 25 years, and one of my favorites was MW2 in the 90s. Great opening scene, and we actually got dial-up to work!

I'm having a great time with MWO, and being older, maybe I have the patience to deal with the bugs that pop up, AND the fact that the game has moved both backwards and forward over the months. Mostly forward.

I love the short games LOL! Because it fits in with my home life: I can get up and do a few things between, or tell my wife to wait a minute for the match to be done. Or pull myself away at midnight after "one more, one more, just one more match". I like finding new friends (House Liao for example) to TS with (and win, a lot), so that's no problem for me either.

The graphics are very solid, but I have to say, not any kind of step forward. They are the basically gorgeous graphics that we FPS people have come to expect in games like BF3 . . . but somehow everything seems more cramped and "smaller" here. Maybe that's because the mechs are so big :-). I hope the maps get somewhat bigger. Hope there are more destructible items. Honestly, I think every building should be theoretically destructible, and the wreckage should damage mechs below. Destroying bridges etc - oh yes.

My rating is in the 7-8 range, and I fully expect the game to become better and better. I paid 120 bucks right off the top, and haven't regretted it.

VSTRONGBAD

PS - My name (and that of my brothers G and D Strongbad) predates HomeStar Runner. It was our name we made up in the original (1990s) X-Com game. Just some trivia and a very weird coincidence.

There are really two parts to the game and their quality is so different that you need two ratings.

Combat Game - 7
Game does a good job of representing lumbering mech combat. Still needs larger maps and more team coordination mechanics. There are a bunch of little things I would like fixed, changed or added but most of that is personal preference.

Strategic Game - 2
This is where you design/build your mech, level up your pilot and prepare for a fight and it is horrible now. The rumor is they are going to revamp it but we haven't seen much love in this part. The client is a small fixed sized window, sounds are horrible, graphics are blah, bugs galore, skill system is unimaginative, lacking pertinent information when choosing what to buy/equip, etc, etc.

7.5/10 (very good score by my standards, 10/10 being near-impossible)

Tl;dr: almost all issues in game will be resolved in time. Game is already good with potential to be amazing. Also, having the best possible experience is partly dependent on the player (read guides and info to learn the game, maybe join a group).

Take what I say with a grain of salt because I really love the MW franchise (started w/ MW2 and have played every iteration since). That said, I've been in Beta since June, and have seen tons of improvements and changes in this short time. PGI doesn't always communicate things in the best way and like any beta, new patches can often break something (which we beta testers must of course find and report-important to note, I think many "testers" could give a damn about helping the devs and just want their stuff NOW... These people are easy to spot, don't let 'em dissuade you). PGI has come through every single time issues have come up and have diligently squashed bugs time and again. A couple months back, I was crashing in every single game I joined. Was lucky to last 2 min before d/c or crash to Mechlab. It was promptly fixed once the cause was discovered. Reason I mention stuff like this is to be aware of the fact that it IS beta and potentially game breaking bugs should be EXPECTED.

Beta disclaimer aside... I absolutely love this game. I honestly find it difficult to play anything else... Also I have pugged in hundreds of matches and dropped with a group a grand total of two times ... Just the other night. NO playing in a PUG is not awful and yes you can get many kills and win matches still. But I still recommend finding a group to play with(even if you don't have a mic) way fun and immersive. So why don't I give a higher score?

Well the core gameplay is there. Big stompy mech action with tons of weapons and really fun mechanics (I feel PGI is getting closer and closer to completely nailing the combat as they add more content. Baby steps!). While there are a limited number of mechs currently, chassis variations CAN call for drastically different play styles, giving great variation. There are a limited number of maps and only one game mode. The maps will come in time, and I'm very excited about the possibilities. The devs have only scratched the surface so far... They could create nearly limitless variety with the maps and I'm eagerly awaiting all the new maps over the next year or two or hopefully longer. The gamplay modes will be coming in time, and are far less of a concern (on par with maps) than making sure things are running smooth and that core mechanics are polished. So, new modes and maps will come in time, I'm not worried one bit.

I would be sure to read the dev blogs to get an idea of where the game is going and if/when you get into beta, immediately read the stickies/guides in the beta forums. They will improve your experience immensely.

I think this game (once community warfare is out and running smoothly) has the potential to be really really great, 9+ for a rating. The writing is all over the wall that this game has a good chance to be really special in time!

I find it hard to rate atm. It FEELS really clunky. I`d love the ability to join A particular server. And a lobby where you can see what Mech others have chosen, and type/talk to peeps that are not on T/S. The ability to leave the game and not have your Mech remain ingame. A join inprogress. Choose a side with your buds. Once a match is over, we can go back to the lobby and text etc.

Once in the cockpit, and DX 11 is FINALLY implimented, I think the ingame piloting experience is going
to be immersive/visually EPIC. Atm MWO in this regard, can`t be called visually Next Gen. A tad dated comes to mind. But there is still time, and DX 11 is still not here.

So.... the jury is still out for me.

As Is? No more than 4/10. (buggy, lacking a lot of key features, very little content.)

Potential? 8/10. (Game engine will never allow truly destructable terrain, having multiple universes disperses the players, and Pay2Win features are all negatives that can't be dismissed)

Expectations for the game in 6 months? 6/10 (Based upon the development timeframe so far, I expect everything to continue to be pushed back such that where we are in 6 months will barely have any community warfare, which is the only real game play aspect that gives this game potential)

I'd give the current game a solid 7.5 but when the game goes live with more chassis and maps and better graphics then it will go up to 9/9.5. Have a feeling the finished product is going to addict me very badly indeed but what the hell everybody needs a vice. The game play is fast and furious but its still to buggy for me to rate it higher but i expect this will be ironed out soon enough.

because the developers from PGI break the game more than they fix it with each patch, i give it a 3 now!

6 Due to all the issues, 9 when everything is finally polished. I paid 120 dollars for the founders package and now all my mechs have been missing and its been 2 days. :/

The only thing completed (or almost completed) is the core gameplay, the big 'Mechs shooting big weapons, and that is a big 9/10.

The rest, incomplete (equipment, maps, gamemodes, mechs...) or simply its not there (metagame, community warfare), so I don't want/can't rate it. Is *very* promising, but just that, promising. Time will tell.

I would give it a 4.5/10 overall. Honestly what is there gets boring very quick. At this point I'm honestly not sure what they could do to increase the replay value of it.

I am looking at it for the games potential here.. and I don't even know all of what is planned to be added but trying to assist with ideas as I play test here. My rating is going to be 10 provided it receives the polish it needs and devs take into account suggestions here from the public side.. A good MMO is based on listening to the community. I've only been playing around with it for a week so far and I can see being hooked very easily - here's hoping you get a key soon and I challenge you to come test your skills.

One thing I love is it's trying to provide the true feel of the original table top rules of Battletech - though some things are a bit different.

10 of course. Piranha is doing a very good job of ensuring that a quality product is ready for market, prior to release. Much better than other betas I have tested in the past.

For all of you that are saying that the game is to buggy or they keep changing it... get over it, its a beta, things are going to change. There is no way to rate this game until they finish it and release the full version. Enjoy the game as it is or don't play it. The game is fun, they are continually trying to improve it, and it lives up to its name.

I would say 6 of 10.

MWO gives me nothing that MWmercs with the mektek packs didn't already give.
Maby when they add more game modes, it wont feel so stale. As it sits i have more fun doing solo runs in solaris matches in mwmercs.

8.5/10: really like the game so far. Core gameplay is there along with enough customization for the limited map and game mode selection.

I'd say that the game is rate-able at this point. It's open beta so anyone can download it, and potential players have the right to know how good it is before they invest their time in it. Anyone can download the game and put money into it, so for all intents and purposes MWO has been 'released.' The community and new players have to keep in mind that the game will only get better as time goes on.

4/10. Can't believe they wanted to go Open Beta with this.

Right now it is rather depressing because the new patches introduce new bugs that really influence the experience in a negative way. Judging from this I'm not sure if they can handle this game. Maybe they can get the basics working until Open Beta that makes it a 7/10, but I fear that the Community Warfare will not see the light of the day for a year at least.

I regret buying the Founders-pack, but like many others I was desperate for a new Mechwarrior game.

Edit: IT IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR TO JUDGE AN UNFINISHED PRODUCT .. with that said ...

Graphics - 8

Spectacular 'mech design and rendering. Maps are intricate and pleasing to look at, with changing weather and nice water. Weapon effects are sweet, especially ACs and Gauss, nice explosions and smoke. Cockpits are very detailed. Many graphical features are still yet to be implemented, i.e. DX11, destructible trees.

Sound - 8

Sound effects are top notch, especially Pulse Lasers, 'mech actuators/engines, missile impacts. AC sound is niiice, but I think it could be LOUDER. Super awesome computer voice is not implemented yet (this is -1 point until resolved ). No music (needed?).

Gameplay - 6

'Mech movement/firing mechanics are spot-on, they feel better than any to date. Only 1 game mode, although quite fun. Lots of content, although still quite early into the game's life. Larger scheme of game - Faction Warfare - is not implemented yet. Much-needed tutorials beginning to be implemented. Due to the necessity for strong coordination & communication in matches, lopsided scores are very common. Lots of customization options - between chassis, variant, weapon & equipment loadout, special upgrades, and skins - the number of 'mech variations is huge. Additional updates will only add more options. Certain imbalances exist due to upcoming content and gameplay changes not being implemented yet.

Potential - 9

Tons of game-changing features and content are scheduled for upcoming updates, and they are just the tip of the iceberg in the greater scheme. There will be tons more 'mechs, maps, game modes, equipment, not to mention graphics, netcode, and balance tweaks with each patch. Balance issues, bug issues, and networking issues are all potentially resolved until we get the release product, and even then the lifespan of the game will bring more content. Within the frame of an online-only title, this game will kick 100-ton ***.

Pretty much about how I feel ,getting better and in a timely manner
