The Chippewa-class heavy Aerospace Fighter is the product of Bowie Industries. The design was a mainstay of the Star League's military, and was soon adopted by House Steiner as its primary heavy ASF after Bowie Industries relocated from the Draconis Combine before the Succession Wars shattered the Star League. In keeping with traditional Lyran military doctrine, the Chippewa may not be very fast, but it packs an impressive amount of firepower. The Chippewa was the first SLDF fighter to mount specialized Laser Insulators, however the technological know-how to produce this insulation was lost during the Succession Wars and later models were built without them, leading to problems such as the one remarked upon today.

Hmm.. Aerospace fighters..? They mentioned ability to call in Artillery. Wonder if we will be able to call in Aerospace support.. ?

Hmm... sarna says that only the original version (the CHP-W5) has laser insulators, but the new (at this time) -W7 has DHS. Maybe the problem's there?

Omg no not the pulse laser coolant coupler!!! i geuss with all that extra heat the pilot will need to activate his 2 by 300 ac unit... (2 window times 300 kph) that should cool him off

Air strikes don't neccessarily mean aerospace strikes though. There are helos and conventional aircraft too (and LAMs).

I disagree with the opinion that if combined arms are involved then it’s not a Mech fight.

Mechs are the most lethal, effective, and awesome combat vehicle on the battle field.... because they engage at a whole other level of destructive power than most combined arms assets do. A medium mech can overwhelm conventional ground forces.. as it should. But limiting game play to just Mech vs Mech promotes the arms race mentality and light and medium mechs just become the fodder for heavies and assaults.

Combined arms action on the field gives context to the power of a mech, regardless of its size. The only good reason to not have combined arms is slow game play with too much action and moving vehicles on screen.

I hope air strikes are made by fighters. There are some helicopters in the bt verse but they are not that many. Also alot of them aren't designed for airstrikes. So i hope that we will see some fighters going overhead to drop some pain.

There are other reasons as well, one of them being monetary, and another time. In order to have combined arms, you have to spend quite a bit of time developing things other than Mech combat and the meta-game. On top of that, you must ensure that, if the players are allowed to play things other than Mechs, things are "balanced" and everyone has some form of progression. If the combined arms are NPC only, you must develop AI. All of these things take time and money. On top of that, PGI has stated that their main focus is on making the player feel like a pilot sitting in a mech, more so than has been done before. Taking the player out of the mech detracts from their design goals for the game.

That said, I totally agree with you that combined arms gives the Mechs more sense of scale and power. I hope they are included eventually as NPCs. I'd love to have infantry scurry about the city, hiding in buildings and acting as a "turret", forcing you to take your attention away from the enemy mechs who are your real competition.
