The problem isn't the people powering down to save repair bills, it's the terrible matchmaking.

the matchmaking wants to have equal numbers of heavies, lights, mediums and assaults, so in fact the odds of playing versus pugs are actually better if you play in a premade and if you play pug you have a high chance of playing agianst a premade.

I'd venture to say that if the matchmaking improves, (like it will soon) this will be a bit less of a problem. Also if non-founders weren't started with absolutely nothing (c-bills) there'd be less of a panic about saving money (for new players)
One or two million isn't enough to get your own mech, and you can't customize trials, so you still get enough time to die your first couple of matches in trials and learn from it, but it would make the learning curve less imposing. (imo)

FYI there is a problem where a Mech will drop and have a black screen. They are unable to play. So the problem may not be the player but the game. Be considerate and understand the game does sometimes imitate Bad playing.

Also, when I get a black screen, I type that on the open channel and power down. At least I hope the chat is still working when black screen happens, since I can't see if I'm really typing anything.

No lock mods? So am I to take it that suiciding is bad unless you shutdown your Mech first, then it's ok?

There's nothing wrong with doing this, it's smart. If my entire team runs off and gets murdered 7 to 0, yeah I'm going to hide and power down most of the time. Depends on their mech make up, if they're a bunch of lights and mediums with a couple heavys, then I'll fight. If I can get them separated.

Anyway, yeah damn right I'm going to save myself a repair bill if my team are bunch of tards who leeroy off and get owned, bad enough that I'm losing.( if my mech gets destroyed and I use ammo, my repair bill can be 130k)

Unless they explicitly say so I'm going to keep shooting them in the face. Also one or two surrendering fine but anymore than that is still an enemy team and needs to be killed.

Powering down is a viable solution. Although I admit it sucks to leave your team one man down, you know when the fight isn't going well. If my team is 1 and 7 and there is no chance of a cap, I don't see a problem in powering down (If I can get away).

Also, if you are about to explode anyway (no armor, red internals), you aren't going to do anything anyway. Again, power down seems acceptable.

Yes it does. Appreciate the effort to type and let your teammates know.

If I am the only one left on my team in a 0-7 slaughter.... I charge. Occasionally I will offer to fight the enemy team one at a time. Even had a team take me up on it. I killed the first mech, then the 2nd ripped me apart, but it was still fun.

Never surrender.

If it's 7 - 0 not in my team's favor, and the enemy team has 5 of their Mechs capping our base, then i'm going to avoid a repair bill that would make Bill Gates flinch paying... The repair bill is what is causing this, and I have seen it said over, and over, and over, and over again ingame... Let's see, the only people that "HAVE" repair bills, are Founders, or people that just did the grind to buy a Mech... Hmmmmm
.
Sorry but sometimes it's smarter to power down...

i have seen players do this at the start of the game...or if in a trial mech just go afk...they really need an idle detector set for like 3 minutes inactivity...then u get no profit....personally i find it boring to "hide" even when im the last guy alive...but i understand when u are the last one why you would

I don't mind it in a 0/7 situation ... there's just not much you're going to be able to do except force them to kill you and (thus) deprive them of the cap bonus. It's the 'uh oh they've killed 2 of us let me disengage since we haven't killed any' mentality that I don't want to see. I've seen teams come back from 0/3 and 0/4 ... it's hard, but if the fights were good and the remaining pilots play smart it can be done. (Particularly if the other team gets cocky) ....

If you're just going to roll over and give up at 0/2 or 0/3 do yourself (and us PUGers) a favor and don't PUG.

I think this is becoming a growing concern. I have encountered more than a few times people in my team powers down when the battle is not going our way. They power down to save their repair bill and the opposing team rewards this behavior by not killing the last mech because they want the capture bounty.

See the cycle? Abandoning your team behavior is becoming more and more. I play this game for fun and I believe dying as I go down fighting and contributing to my team even if PUG. It sucks this game is turning into a c-bill grind taking priority over gameplay.

If I come across a powered down mech that I don't think is going to power back up, I will pick it apart piece by piece. I was on the losing team last night and saw an enemy mech doing that to a teammate who did it, and I came out and encouraged it. That is how you stop this behavior. Even if you don't kill the last mech being an AFK'er or powerdown'er, bring it so close to destruction that they have a really high repair bill. People will start thinking twice.Wil some people get caught in this due to bugs? Sure. Probably happened to me the once or twice I had a bug. Not going to ruin someones experience since bug related crashes are fairly rare.

i think powering down is a viable tactic. ive personally down it once i see that my team is split and half the people are dead and the enemy force is thundering there way to me. why should i DIAF if i can save myself from an inevitable death. i think the people who are complaing about it just dont realize when the battles lost. even WON a round by running away and one commmando saw me and there whole team chased me to the corner of the map while the last guy on my team went and capped there base.

I was in a game before the Open Beta started and i ended up being the last guy on my team standing vs 4 or so of the opposing team when one of them said "Power down or die" I replied back " Bring it on, no surrender" I ended up killing 2 of them (they were already banged up from battle) before i was killed....lol. Fight to the end i say!!!

We are addressing several known issues with farming.

Trial Mech Locking
  • Trial Mechs will now work the same as any BattleMech, they are locked until the match ends. This ends the ability for a macro player to "churn" matches to maximize CB.
Quitting/Disconnecting Early - While Still Alive
  • You will only receive rewards up to the point of disconnection.
  • NOTE: If you are dead, you will receive earned rewards, plus match rewards.
Idle/AFK
  • Players that fail to provide any input will be kicked from a match Although it does not prevent a macro player from simply putting in inputs, it forces them to LOOK like a bot.
Abusing this system is considered a violation of the TOS/COC.

Just report them, end of story.

Can you really blame them? I run only Trials in PUGs. I totally understand why someone in a streak cat would power down when he finds out that his team is going to be stomped 7-0 (assuming he survives). Why should he waste all his ammo, and deal with repairs when it's going to be a rout?

Were I the guy in the streak cat I would only continue fighting if the mechanics of the payout were changed, like you get 10 times more money for destroying an enemy component or mech when the fight is 6 vs 2 or 8 vs 1, etc. Otherwise why throw good money after bad?
