Thoughts on Man With the Golden Gun mode?

Mech with the Golden Gauss mode maybe?
Since mechs have hands they could just pick up the gauss rifle, and since clans are OP anyway, they couldn't pick it up since they don't have usually have hands. Oh man, maybe this is how we can balance against the clans?! When the mech carrying the Golden Gauss dies, the mechs can rush to the Gauss and pick it up, and the fun continues. Plus, since its a handheld gun, convergence would be super fast because it would be so much faster for a mech to move it onto target.
Of course the Golden Gauss can't have ammo or heat because this would unnecessarily handicap mechs with few heat sinks, low tonnage, etc.
Thoughts?

Anyway... It's an interesting idea, but would be utmost hell to balance. So, unless it could be refined a great deal, I have to say I'm against the basic idea. Forbidding mechs without hands from using the gauss rifle, for a start, is a very non-specific way of choosing which mechs can and can't use it. A game mode specifically centered around a specific mechanic cannot function correctly if a player is forced into choosing an option which is against their norm (learning the specifics of a mech with arms if their main is one without) in order to take advantage of that mechanic.
There are other issues, but that issue alone, until it can be resolved, brings the idea to a grinding halt in my opinion (if some other way to mount to item were introduced, this problem could potentially be overridden, but there are others issues which also arrise in regards to this game mode...)
Other issues include:
- Light mechs with the gun vs. Heavy mechs with it. Generally, light mechs have their mobility balanced by having weaker weapons and armor. GIving one such a powerful weapon could, in the hands of the right pilot, be devastating.
-Also relating to mech weight (in a post after mine), slower mechs (generally heavier ones and the urbie) would be easier targets for a weapon specifically designed to be stronger than is normally available, and therefore would be weaker in regards to trying to go against it. (It just seems like Assault mechs are at an all-around disadvantage in regards to a game mode such as this, doesn't it? )
- Respawns. As was pointed out in a previous post, something which gives you massive advantages towards beating an opponent are statistically unfair in a situation where the opponent only has one (or at most a few) chances to defeat you. Easily avoided by increasing the life count, but that is its own issue which would have to be dealt with in due time.
- Balancing the weapon itself. Similar to the first point, the strength of the weapon would need to be very carefully finetuned, as this is a much more technical game than most shooters (the design of the mech itself, in addition to pilot skill, is very important in most Mechwarrior related cases, as opposed to normal shooters which are balanced upon either weapons any player could obtain, or on the skill of the individual player).

Maybe after 5 minutes of holding the Golden Gauss a Golden LRM pod is added? 10 minutes a Golden SRM or AC 20. If you somehow manage to survive 30 minutes (if a battle goes that long for some obscure reason) your mech (even if it's an Atlas) becomes the size of an Elemental.
But the thing with this mode is like with Goldeneye (good old Goldeneye) it'd have to be free for all can't be team. Well until someone has the weapon then it's that person against everyone else.
And the one shot kill thing would only work if it's center torso or (unlikely) a head shot. With how mechs are designed they can lose an arm, leg, left/right torso and still function. Not like the human body where if hit in the arm or leg it could hit an artery and you could die.

A 1 shot wonder weapon that is the objective of the map completely scraps the entire Tonnage listing and point. An Atlas would be easier to take down than a Wasp.
I wouldn't be against "For the lolz" modes that would be in a mech simulator instead of on the battlefield. But as an alternative mode that offers progression, I would be voting a No.

If there's a Golden Gun, it stands to reason someone manufactures Golden Guns, and hence, why aren't they mass producing it for greater profits, to all the available houses etc?
If it's non-canon rare lostech, why is it being used in battle? Shouldn't your Merc Company or faction House be reverse engineering it to produce more?
And how do Mechs exchange it in battle? It'll take likely months and hundreds of thousands of C-Bills to determine whether they're even able to integrate into your Chassis.

worst idea ever, you should be beaten with a golden stick (not a real gold stick, just a lead pipe painted gold).
