Fix the advanced zoom module

Why is the advanced zooming module absolutely worthless? I worked my *** off grinding GXP to earn one, as well as the 2 million C-Bill price tag to get it. I thought "at 4x magnification, it zooms further than standard zoom and I can keep situational awareness around me? How could that combination go wrong?"

The problem is that the zoom picture ends up with the pixels so huge, it's practically a mosaic. I cannot tell what I'm looking at because the huge Mech pixels just blend in with the background. Was this module originally a security camera from the 1980's? The 4x scope I have on my rifle gives me a much clearer picture than this. Why can't it be a sharp picture at the same resolution as the rest of your view like the normal zoom?

Agreed the advance zoom module needs work, practically useless how it is.

I think that it is a cheep way of rendering the image. rather than having to render parts of the image twice. Def needs work and is prob place holder code for the moment. still in beta as it were

They already said in some thread that this is the reason, it has huge pixles. The only other option they currently had, was to render the whole scene twice, which would half framerates.

Maybe make the zoom full resolution, and the surroundings blocky then - the zoom is what you'll be looking at.

Then I have to ask: why include it?

Did MW4 operate this way? I remember it too having PiP zooming, and don't recall it ever slowing down framerates.

(I know you can't answer these, they're just more for if a dev happens to see this thread)

I don't think you understand how what they've done works.
Currently they render the entire scene, then select the middle 100 x 100 px (for example) of that image, and then stretch them to 400 x 400 px making each individual pixel 4 px wide.

To do what you suggest would actually be a lot of work rendering wise, where as this is a simple hack (hopefully a place holder!).

That said I've not actually seen this in action so my response is based on what I've heard.
Question: is it x4 on top of your current zoom level? so if you're at 3x zoom and you activate it you get 3*4 = 12x zoom?

Since you can toggle it on and off I'd be quite happy if it made the whole of the outside zoom in more, not just a little box in the middle of the screen (I actually dislike that kind of implementation since the box is never big enough for my liking).

MW4 also wasn't running the Cry Engine, which from the forums a lot of people are having issues with running on even the lowest settings. Most likely PGI does not want to kill the game for people with low-end machines but still, should let those of us with beefier rigs run the game with complete PiP.

Answer: no. You can only have one zoom active at a time. If you're in PiP and engage normal zoom, PiP disengages and normal zoom engages, and vice versa.

I like the PiP type of implementation. It allows you to keep situational awareness with your immediate surroundings while also getting a far away focus.

I think the Cry Engine could still be tweaked to run more smoothly on low end machines, but to what extent, I don't know. I remember seeing custom config files a while back that made it better to run on low end machines.

I wonder if it's possible that if it has to render twice for PiP, if the PiP render could just be made on super low settings (just without the mosaic effect). I'm not an expert on engines though, so just disregard that if that's impossible.

I agree it would be nice to still run it with complete PiP, but I imagine it would still be a slap in the face if someone on an average computer saves up and gets it, only to discover the game turns into a slideshow.

Also makes more sense than the "telescopic eyes" effect you get without the module.

I have been totally robbed with this ;)
I'm playing at the lowest quality level, and it just doesn't do a thing. Press the v key and nada, nothing.
Give me my gxp back please...

Oh wait do I have to get the pilot tree PLUS the mech module? it's not well explained

MW3 pip would be excellent. currently, it's not worth but might be in the future. Your efforts may not have been in vain. You will just have it before everyone else when it finally does become useful.
