Could someone who owns HBK4-P try this out for me?

For those Hunchback 4P (the one with 9 energy hardpoints) owners, has anyone ever tried this build?

7x ML/MPL (right body & head)
2x ER PPC (arms)

Is it a practical brawler build? I'm thinking about buying a "cheap" energy-only mech which obviously lead by attention to the mech with the most energy hardpoint :D

This thing runs waaaaaaaaay too hot, even double sinks won't help you out. Don't get me wrong, the 4P is great, most common build you'll see is 9 small lasers with a big engine (often an XL engine as if you lose the torso you're about out of the game anyway).

Saving weight/heat with Double Sinks and Endo-Steel will probably let you fit medium lasers into the arms as well.

PPCs are easily outperformed by Large Lasers due to lower heat costs, shorter recycle.
Having 2 PPCs is just begging to overheat your mech.

My friend is running 8X ML and that is too hot.
I'm going to try a 6x MPL one this weekend.
You really don't have the heat for lots of lasers and PPCs, especially on a brawler.
I could see 2x LL and 7x SL working.

That is alot of weight in weapons.

14 tons for the lasers and another 14 for the PPCs.

That's over half the mech's entire weight. Give or take 10 tons for armor and that leaves you with just 12 tons for internal structure (5t or 2.5t), heatsinks, and engine. Doesn't sound like it'd work.

With regular medium lasers you might be able to fit all that, but it's still going to be very slow and very hot.

I have found the "sweet spot" for MPLs on the P to be 4... 5 if you are good at managing heat.
This gives you a fast, sturdy brawler Mech that can do good damage without heat issues and can take a pounding.
Of course... that is just my opinion... others will vary.

Agree that that build sounds way too hot and will have some weight issues. Had a 4P for the longest time myself and did well with 275STD, DHS (can't remember how many right off top of head), and 9 ML. Grouped them so the hunch was a group and the other 3 were a group, then another group on the hunch set to chain vs group fire. Put out some respectable matches with it....just need a LOT of trigger discipline is all.

245? XL?? With that loadout?
XL Hunchback is Bad. Capital B Bad.
If you really want to try your original idea build this.
If you want to keep the SL-ML combo, this is better.

Wow! No, no, no, no, NO!

Never put an XL engine in a hunchy. STD200, 225, 250 or 275. Endo & DHS are mandatory, Ferro will leave you gasping for slots, so don't bother unless you know you won't be experimenting with the chassis too much.

The 4P can run 9ML, STD275 and plenty of heat sinks to be viable.

If you want to run MPL, LL or PPC, pick ONE of these weapon types and forget the others. You can then still fit lots of DHS to have at least borderline decent heat efficiency. And you should probably try such builds only after finishing the Elite skills.

Example: HBK-4P

Traditionally true, but you'd be surprised how survivable an XL engine is in a hunchback when everyone you fight dies before they get a chance to fire back.

Example: HBK-4P - The Murderback

I have run 2LL's and 4SPL's before.. it was a decent mech, but over all, i find other mechs better for laser boats.. that said i have yet to play it since quirks

You could try this: HBK-4P
This is one little, nimble, nasty, annoying, audacious, "I kill you from up-close" death machine.

Either use 9ML like this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b4f7121a18e1928
That is considered the standard build for the -P variant with max speed and max hardpoint use with quite good efficiency.
Just group your lasers a bit. (2 arms, 6 shoulder and seperate head, or 3 shoulder and 3shoulder+1head in one group)

or maybe use one LLaser instead, to have a weapon left on your left arm if your RT is blown off like this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f8785fdcb952e46
Ofc, that means you can't just sacrifice that left arm :)

Brawler?

That thing would fry.

HBKs arent the best brawlers, your hunch is the first target.

In a P go all ML, i use a 3, 4 ML firing groups/ a third for chain fire. Stay with the heavies and support.

Brawler HBK would be the SP with 2 A-SRM4 and 5SL. Rate of fire is insane.
HBK-G can brawl a little, until you lose your hunch.
