Nude and ejecting on an ice planets surface of -50C with only a combat birthday suit to save you. Either way your screwed.

Well, there is that certain picture of Natasha Kerensky. :)
Actually... there're also the examples of Katya Kerensky (II), Ranna Kerensky, Anastasia Kerensky, and Rhonda Snord... ;)

Personally, I just go with fundoshi (think sumo wrestlers). I don't trust those cooling jackets.

Well, that might be true, but remember. it is a huge galaxy and a very long time-line, we are talking about.
I would much more like to think our gear looks like this:

I still think that is one of the best game beginnings ever.

I suspect that most mercenaries strip down in their cockpit when they expect to be duking out in a 'Mech. At least that's what I imagined when I read the first three novels of the Gray Death Legion. I remember the novel mention that they remove as much of their clothes as possible, both Lori and Grayson.

Though I wonder, if its hot inside your cockpit, wouldn't you NOT want exposed flesh touching REALLY hot fabric/metals/composite materials? Now, I'm not saying you should get expensive leather seats or anything (points for style though), but I'd imagine it would still burn.

1) Leave car outside in the hot sun for many hours.
2) Strip down to nothing, enter car sit down & grip steering wheel.
3) *sizzle*

Anything other than coolant jacket+underwear is way off canon for the types of forces we'd be fighting as.

That being said, I support the avatar in-cockpit(which boils down to the arms we see in the trailer) being sheathed in some high-tech suit. Why, you ask? Because it makes it easier for an individual of any skin color or sex to imagine themselves as the pilot.

If some sort of customizable pilot feature comes out, then it damn well better go to underwear+cooling jacket. It's a grimy, dirty, imperfect universe. A high-tech wondersuit kind of blows holes in that premise.

I had no idea that Dracula was from the FRR!

That said, this is the only proper MechWarrior uniform:

It did start the long running joke in our unit though, whenever someone happens to blurt "INCOMING LRMs" somebody tends to scream "EJECT, EJECT!"

It was a good intro but the fact the first reaction in a pristine 'mech is to eject from LRM/10s, then blowing up because of them, is really something.
