I'm getting close to getting enough to buy a Cent-AL varient or the Hunch-SP varient (I think that one is the 2 SRM 6 one). I've experiemented with the Hunch-SP before in closed beta, so I'm leaning towards the Cent-AL because it's something different.

Either way, I'm kind of looking for something economical for each one. My train of thought is build an economical mech first then aim for the larger mech that's tricked out. A generalist is preferable, I'm not a specialist in any particular role. I've heard of a 1 Large Laser, 3 medium lasers, AMS + ammo for the Cent-AL being economical and fairly decent, but are there any others?

Any responses would be very much appreciated.

for 4sp, get 2 streak srms2, strandard engine around 220, dhs, endo and play around with lasers... really solid build for supporting and scout hunting

or 2x srm6 with artemis for hard punch, but that gets a bit expensive

Stock the 4SP is pretty economically already. Just add endo steel, AMS+1Ton ammo and an extra heatsink. Streaks are nice but I prefer the big punch of 2xSRM6.

I have hardly any experience in a Centurion but that build doesn't sound too bad. Can't think of another economy build for the centurion, the other variants have ballistics hard points rather then energy.

Any variation of a 4SP with 4 <lasers>, 2 srm6s, a faster engine, and enough heat sinks to give you a few volleys before needing to cool off is a killing machine. Max your torso armor, run with either 304 or 320 (31 or 39 in each leg respectively) depending on what you need to do with that half ton. I like to move 2 points to each rear side, and add the 2 available in the ct to the rear as well.

Slot the tech you can afford, go artemis/MLs/DHS/endo/whatever combination suits your budget.

If you go with the Cent, go zombie. Standard engine of your chosen size, and drop 2 MPL or ML into the CT mounts. Rest of the build go with whatever, idk much about Cents beyond zombies.

Debating my 4sp at the moment. I moved it to DHS, with those, endo and XL I run out of slots before I run out of weight, and theoretically run hotter. It may move to a standard engine, if I can fiddle with the weight somehow.

I found that using 1 LL 3 ML, TAG, and 2 LRM5s on the HBK SP was fun (AMS too, I consider it mandatory for all mechs.) It works as a generalist, solo build. The only thing I'd warn against is that the alpha damage is very low and I used this with a very fast engine so I could kite. I'm not sure how well it would work at lower speeds.

If you're using stock engines and want to keep things general purpose I'd say some combination of medium, large lasers, and LRMs are safe ways to go. LRM ammo isn't too pricey if you're not boating or using Artemis.

I'm running two versions of my SP.

1) fast Brawler
260STD
2x SSRM 2, 1t of Ammo
4x ML
AMS + 1t Ammo
10x DHS

2) LRM Boat
200 STD
2x LRM 15, 4-6 t of Ammo
2x ML
2x DHS (just because i have DHS, should be working with standart HS)
AMS + 1t Ammo depending on how much LRM-Ammo i'm carrying.

PS:
A2) dropp the Engine down to 200STD, add 1 ML and as much Ammo and HS as u like.
Ran it that way before i got my 260.

Personally I'd go with the AL, but I#m a die hard Cent player and personally hate how hunchbacks handle.

My Build was 2 medium Pulsers each in torso and Arm, AMS and the rest just heatsinks (possibly even double heat sinks, as soon as you can afford them)
Endo Steel chassis might be a way of getting in some more heat sinks but isn't needed.

EDIT: This build is an absolut cockpit killer ! After some practice at hitting each mechs cockpit you'll basically kill anything that doesn't move faster than 100. As for those fast buggers, just go for the legs.

After that you'll never have to spend money on that mech again and repairs are really low (even if you get comepletely wrecked).

With the new Cent that has been added now it really is viable to go centurion again!
The A packs 3 missile slots which make an amazing brawler out of him if you out in a gauss or LB-X (i prefer LB-X over gauss but people will probably disagree)
The D is basically your diehard speedkiller, I am currently running him with the biggest XL engine i can fit, 2 SRM 6 (or stream SRMs if you want to save weight and hunt down lights)and AMS (as for the arm slot i am still testing) and it is an absolut blast ! Really expensive to build and to repair, but with a premade group that thing really shines as a light-hunter.

Go HBK-4SP and here's why. Versatility in builds.

No you wont be jack of all trades and well rounded. But you will excel in one role or the other. You can equip the 4SP as a Brawling beast or a LRM boat equiping either LRM 10s or LRM 15s.

With the new Artemis release, SRM6s just got even deadlier, adding a tighter spread to dual SRM6s for longer range hits that are more damaging due to hitting a smaller hit box. I rock the 4SP personnally and I LOVE it. The key is getting a good balanced STD engine with Endo steel structure and DHS to equip everything you need to.

Here's mine currently:

HBK-4SP

255 STD Engine 81kph
Endo steel structure
DHS

4x MLas (2 each arm)
1x SLas (Head)
2x SRM6 (Shoulders)

2t of SRM ammo
Also shaved down to 31 Armor on each leg to make this work.

I can swap out the SLas for a AMS as well, but generally I am not targetted often by LRMs...so I don't normally take it.
I also have a 220 STD engine so I can swap in a LLas for a little long range support.

I may drop my engine down to 245 or 240 and buy myself the new Artemis upgrade too.

2LL, 2ML stock everything else seems fairly solid provided you can manage your heat.

Also don't use Artemis SRMs if you like money.

For the Cent AL:
  • 1x LL
  • 2x mpl (you can switch to ml and add more heat sinks)
  • standard 200 engine
  • nearly max armor(1 point off of both legs)
  • AMS optional
  • crap ton of heat sinks (I think I have 14)
  • endo steel
And you got yourself a nice brawler, torso turn to protect your center/right arm and you got a cent who continues to fight even after you sides are gone ^^/ If you stay in a brawl more than often you'll find yourself with no weapons due to your weapons being destroyed and you walking away from the fight ^^b with the ~14 heat sinks you'll virtually never overheat and if you do you sit back for a few seconds and watch that heat dissipate

Looks like I'm off of Streak2s on my 4SP and back onto SRM6s. It was fun while it lasted.

Thanks for the thoughts. It's really appreciated. I'll look'em over and see which one I think I'll like best, and if nothing else I can always switch builds with whichever mech I decide to go with. Still grinding a little bit more so that I'll have the cash to modify.

Again, thanks for the advice.

For CN9-AL:

2 x LLs or LPLs (I personally went for twin LPLs)
2 x MLs or MPLs (don't go for MPLs if you have twin LPLs)
2 x SSRM2's or 2 x SRM4/SRM6 or SRM4 + SRM6 (depend on RA's loadout)
AMS (optional)
DHS upgrade
15+ x DHS
Endo-steel chassis upgrade
Armor tonnage retained
1 x Std. Engine 200
1 x XL Engine 200+ (optional)

PS: You can also try 2 x PPCs. An effective sniper loadout for CN9-AL. 2 x ER PPCs on its RA is believed to be a much more effective sniper build for CN9-AL, but not very ideal when it comes to heat dissipation due to heavy reliance on HS's.
