Seriously? Time Out Is Ridiculous.

So they had capped our base a bit more, but we had killed 7 mechs and we were still 3 alive. So apparently when the game times out what counts is the amount capped and not the general mech score and mech kills. Seriously? I mean if you got cap advantage and the time is almost running out you can hide and power down and then good luck finding your mech.

Does it have something to do with the fact that you're getting paid to capture/defend a base?

ive never seen that happen my team was down a game 5-7 and had someone almost cap our base and when time went out it was a tie...
i think the cap timer may have been broken

You're citing a single case of one of the most extreme possible outcomes of any given match. I don't think it's a sign that the system is broken. That the time ran out at all shows that neither side was decisive enough. In other words, while your team may have had the upper hand on the field by the time the game ended there's still a lot that your team could have done better as well.

The game is objective based. The objective is to control/capture the flag. So Cap will always outweigh kills. If they install a true "Deathmatch" their would be no base capture as an alternate way to win.

this^^ if your job was to "protect your base and destroy theirs" it wouldnt matter that you killed half of them if your base is burned to the ground...

The number of mechs left alive is not a tie breaker either.
The deciding factor for a timer expiration is the number of kills. You may have had 3 to 1 mechs, but I suspect the other team had a larger number of mission kills. The other team could have had a maximum of 5 kills, while your team (despite a majority of survivors) probably had fewer kills (due to disconects, out of bounds, overheats, or teamkills)

A while back someone had tried this, there was a missing mech somewhere and they said just cap a little bit before the time runs out, I siad since the score at the top was 7 v 7 it would be a tied game regardless of how far the bars on the base cap were down. (since I had seen that happen a couple times before)
The end result was a draw.

When the timer runs out, the winner is the team with the most kills. Simple as that. In the event that both teams have the same amount of kills, it is a Tie.
The base capture doesn't count for anything at all in the situation described. The base capture timer does NOT count for anything when the timer runs out only kills do.
However, what might have happened is that the game lagged out a bit for you and that the enemy did in fact capture for the win, but on your screen it looked like they had a "bit to go".

As a matter of fact, having a few mechs pull the enemy out of position (even if the friendlies die) while the rest of the team caps the base is an excellent tactic.

this. unless they changed it last patch. when time runs out, the team with more kills, not the team with more base cap %, wins the match

Yeah, was actually the 1st time i had a time out game and was left out disappointed by the results.
I mean, i won't even talk much about this frankly uninspired game mode which rarely generates interesting outcomes but that was just ridiculous in my opinion.
